FOXNEWS: Mayor Nagin intervened to help tourists escape New Orleans before people in Superdome
Fox News - O'Reilly | September 2, 2005 | nwrep

Posted on 09/02/2005 8:44:35 PM PDT by nwrep

Shepard Smith eyewitness report on O'Reilly: Mayor Ray Nagin intervened today to help tourists (many foreigners) staying at the upscale W hotel downtown escape New Orleans ahead of many of the people in the Superdomw. Tourists were shipped in buses to the Superdome and other connecting buses took them to safety.

Black Mayor Ray Nagin favors "W" tourists. Imagine that headline after all the racist garbage thrown at the President.

The 60 foreign tourists were escorted from the Superdome by military personnel. They spent one night at a medical aid post in a nearby building before they were moved to the Hilton.

So covert special ops were the first in. Rescue foreign tourists to preserve US as a tourist destination. According to this they went in Thursday night. What was the explosion Friday morning ? Was that a diversion or cover for ..censored...

What I am saying is that we don't distinguish a faraway disaster like this if it were Sapporo, or Fukuoka, or Nagoya, we would just call it or see it as being in "Japan". Over there, they don't care or focus in that much about "New Orleans" or "Lousiana". The vast majority of them see it as "America", which, maybe unfairly, confirms so many of the bad impressions they have of it being unsafe and hypocritical (trying to bring order to other places of chaos around the globe). Say, why not take a look at the new thread I just started three minutes ago with the video clip??

I've only heard Col. Hunt (On O'Reilly) say that the Gov. of La. NEVER 'pulled the trigger' to request Fed. assistance. Correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't the Gov. of any State have to request help in order receive Fed. help? From what I understand, NG troops from one State cannot enter another State without being requested by said state's Gov. Correct? If what I've heard from Col. Hunt is correct, how can the MSM continue to critize the President and his response time. This is really bothering me and if anyone can set me straight I'd appreciate it. Best...

They'd probaly vote him in again if they could.

Yes. Yes. and Yes. I just posted a comment about that.

This is a total cf for Bush.

I disagree. I think Shep has been appropriately hurt and outraged. He has been careful, however, to say he does not know what can be done.

How would you like to stand by and watch people die?

I don't think any of us have a real handle on what is happening. I am not at all sure anyone does.

It certainly does appear, however, that the Governor of LA blew it bigtime.

Gawd, some guy on John Batchelor just said that rather than shooting looters the best thing for NO would be to shoot the mayor!

I heard that! Funny. Prolly true.

I agree - that's the first thing Hawaii would think of as well (at least from the general spirit here I'm fairly sure that would happen).

Shepherd Smith is over the top and needs to take a rest. If he wants to be in government, he should run for office and take a stab at it. This is the first time I have ever been embarrassed watching Fox News.

Geraldo should be sh ...well, he should just shut up.

themselves in if they would have only voted differently and/or more often.

WOW.

FACT- LAKEVIEW, ST BERNARD PARISH, BUCKTOWN to name a few other areas are predominatly white areas. My friend, his mother, his fiance and countless other friends of his and mine lost their homes in Lakeview due to the 17 street canal breach. Why not report this? Because it is not news to them.

This is a total cf for Bush.

Since this is now a national security issue, Bush has a new sock puppet.

No way - he's just guaranteed himself a bright future in Dim politics. They're probably going to start coming out tomorrow to defend him, by accusing anyone who criticizes him of being a racist. Thery really don't have any choice. He'll play that card to the fullest and rack up 90+ percent of the vote the next time there's an election in that corner of the world.

He doesn't even need to use the race card. When people look at a job of this magnitude, they say the buck stops with Bush. Everyone here at FR is dissecting what was done before Katrina hit. People don't give one sh!t about that. Not one bit. They care about the aftermath. The total CF down there. And they wonder why Bush/Homeland Security wasn't prepared for fixing the problems after such a devastating event. This is bad for Bush. Trust me. If I'm wrong, you can call me on it. But I'm quite sure I'm right.

Those buses should be running before EVERY storm hits! Thats part of a disaster preparedness drill is to go out, start up and prepare the evacuation!

The mayor probably did the right thing in taking the tourists out first....the people of NO knew the hurricane was coming, it isn't like a bomb was dropped, unexpectedly.

Plus...it appears they had paid for the seats on those buses, FEMA took over the buses, they were taken to the superdome and then became targets for evil thugs who saw them as 'white'.

I believe it was a good call if this info is correct.

Wonder what Nagin makes salary wise. Just curious. (And don't even WANT to know his side take.)

The stupid tourists probably had more money than the poor people huddling in the super dome. I read about two families who paid $5000 for a limo to drive them back to Chicago. It was probaly worth it. The poor people don't have $5000.

"There are no more constituents. He's a mayor of nothing. He's as out of work as the other 850,000 people in the area. (...but I do have a feeling he'll continue to draw a municipal salary)"

Sales tax revenues for "No Lawleans" are probably down just a bit...ditto for alcohol taxes and new building permits and traffic tickets and municipal fines.

What do you want to bet that Hurricane Central (unlike nearby Mobile, Atlantic Coast Miami, or Gulf Coast Galveston) has no rainy day fund to handle salaries and expenses from a storm, either?

Considering NO is a major tourist destination there should have been contingency plans to evacuate tourists.

I saw on tv somewhere today that NO had a contingency plan the size of a phone book. But once the disaster hit, no one followed one thing in it.

(That info comes from one of the LA politicians, and I don't know which one now, sorry, I heard her say it earlier today, maybe a local NO official.)
