Wells Fargo pledged $500,000 and offered to match up to 250,000 of employee contributions for a total of 1,000,000. Contributions are going to the Red Cross and United Way.
I win the pool!
Double-barrelled Mega-PING! to both lists! If you want on, FReepmail me!
Thank you for your post, and DITTO!
I was flamed badly on another thread the other day for defending the very folks to whom you refer...
(BYW, I'm a Yankee - lived in PA all my life)
Okay. There was something today but it is being kept quiet. People are dazed, numb. Even people who don't have people in NO. Nobody can watch tv long. Everyone has a favorite place that is gone.
Interesting thing. People went over to the open dorms to see if help was needed. The first dorm, the RA said everything was fine, all the students were out volunteering, nobody falling apart, so on. Chipper, everyone busy.
The second dorm the RA was in tears, said everyone was upset, crying, hugging, talking and ventilating. Indeed it was.
My take was that now is the time for people to do something to help, not to ventilate, to be distracted as much as possible.
Later, it will be more sad I do believe. But it is just too much to take in let alone really know how one feels right now.
I never saw anything like this in my life. I do believe it is worse than 911. And there are so many good people working so hard, giving so much. An entire dorm of self centered freshman, all were out volunteering. It is a good group this young generation, don't care what anyone else thinks, they are really good kids.
And everyone is hugging each other. Not being much of a hugger is kind of hard on me, I am more of the "buck up and quit crying" type.
You really meet yourself in times like this.
One thing we can all get from this....don't be depending on the government to help in times of crisis. It's too big for them.
Families, friends, neighbors need to plan now in case something occurs in your cities and towns. Who knows when the next crisis might appear?
It will be horrible in the cities (as we see now); it's best to be in smaller towns. We won't be able to depend on the government to help (and we probably shouldn't expect it anyway -- people lived for centuries with only neighbors helping one another).
It's also very important to be aware of your location, what type of neighborhood you live in. I know human nature can get out of control in any neighborhood, but at least try for the best situation possible. And I'm not talking about wealthy neighborhoods here --- some of the safest places will be out in small rural areas, away from the throngs of people.
Bears repeating. What happend to American self sufficiency, ingenuity, initiative, work-ethic, neighborliness, can do attitude? It seems the "great society" was a collosal failure (other than insuring democratic votes)
We should all learn a prepare for a possible next disaster and not depend on our government to do everything for us.
Next we take care of the liberal judges and take our country back. Law and order, no PC, few long term handouts.
Is he alive?! Praise God he's been found. I loved that guy..sw
There was a pool and nobody told me? :-)
Born in NO abt 8 days ago, with a few problems. Left in NO hosp......was evac'd after storm to Houston.
Parents finally get to Houston.....no baby. No one knew where he had next been transfered to.......finally showed up in Fort Worth tonight.
I don't think you are reading it right. I think EVERYONE has praised NN for the threads.
I think the Superdome was a last resort & that those in authority did not think the situation would deteriorate so fast and people would need to stay so long. The people in the Superdome had mandatory "get out" orders & refused. Got the impression that there was nothing there except shelter...no food, water, clothes or sanitation. Maybe someone knows more than I.

LAKE Charles? I think that's on the other side of the state. Are you sure it's not St. Charles?
I believe you mean Greg Kelly, who has a Dad named Ray Kelly that is NYCity Police Commissioner.
We used to do that all the time !
Several Marines laughed their butts off when I relayed this post to them.
No, they have to get processed through the system. I'm sure more than a few of the dying are from diabetes, many have uncontrolled diabetes and live a tenuous existance.
Sad, but true. Diabetes is becomming a number 1 killer in this nation.
Jesse Jackson, an ambulance chaser if there ever was one.
