Okay. There was something today but it is being kept quiet. People are dazed, numb. Even people who don't have people in NO. Nobody can watch tv long. Everyone has a favorite place that is gone.

Interesting thing. People went over to the open dorms to see if help was needed. The first dorm, the RA said everything was fine, all the students were out volunteering, nobody falling apart, so on. Chipper, everyone busy.

The second dorm the RA was in tears, said everyone was upset, crying, hugging, talking and ventilating. Indeed it was.

My take was that now is the time for people to do something to help, not to ventilate, to be distracted as much as possible.

Later, it will be more sad I do believe. But it is just too much to take in let alone really know how one feels right now.

I never saw anything like this in my life. I do believe it is worse than 911. And there are so many good people working so hard, giving so much. An entire dorm of self centered freshman, all were out volunteering. It is a good group this young generation, don't care what anyone else thinks, they are really good kids.

And everyone is hugging each other. Not being much of a hugger is kind of hard on me, I am more of the "buck up and quit crying" type.

You really meet yourself in times like this.

At work here in San Antonio we are taking up a collection for the refugees that are coming to Kelly AFB. I am bringing a load of children's books, clothes, and bedding. People are really motivated here in Texas to help out.

Is there a thread with a running list of who is known to be safe and who is still unheard from in the area? I think there was a check-in thread prior to the worst of the storm, but lost track of it.

I'm late to the thread, but did anybody hear the LSU resident (Dr. Mark Baker, I think) who was on the phone with Greta, telling about the horrors that happened there??

I may have some of the details confused, but he seemed to be referring both to the situations at his hosp. and at the Dome.

They were not rescued for days .. they were on their own, had to devise their own security, food, water systems, etc.... just ungodly. He said people were trying to break into their ICU unit.

He had been at the Dome, and I believe he said that last night, there were several murders, 6 rapes, and a suicide there .. just mind boggling horror.

He was SO thankful to the Lafayette Fire Dept.. apparently there was a fire (must be at the hospital), and they somehow got it extinguished. He was also so grateful for some 14 yr. old kids in flat boats .. who finally came by and realized people there needed help. They took him with 2 patients in a flatboat out to an airboat so the patients to get to another hospital.

His last statement: I won't be going back to the Dome.
