28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.

Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.

House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."

Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.

The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

"Historically, we have not needed a large number of law enforcement officials in this country.

Historically, too, we have been a nation of self-sufficient people holding Judeo-Christian values.

I wonder if there's any connection here?"

You make a good point. I just feel so sorry for the neediest of the needy -- the sick, the elderly, the children who must rely on others -- so sad.

I was wondering that, too. I've been looking at the photos on Fox and can't believe the mess! Just read an article on Fox that said they hope the water will seep out of the city at the rate of one half inch per hour. That's a foot a day for 20 feet of water. Wow! What kind of rot can happen in that time.

Jesseeeeee just showed up on Larry King. He is arriving in NO - 3 days after the Bush administration did. Excusing the looting, etc. Disgusting.

Helicopters are using the levees, when possible, to pick up survivors. He may not be able to land, or even enter NO airspace. Coast Guard aircraft are up and the entire area is closed to general aviation. I would bet there are some NG aircraft up also. If he tries to enter restricted airspace he is liable to be escorted to dry land, followed by the nearest jail cell.

Like I said, what's wrong with human-sized sand bags? Just because they are using huge ones doesn't mean they can't ALSO use little ones. Now that the water level has stabilized, they aren't fighting the current (which was the purpose of the huge ones).

Point being: Every little bit helps. And it's sure ALOT better to be part of the solution than to be part of the problem.

"When did Fallujah become more safer than NO?"

ON Monday!!

Did anyone just see the report on MSNBC about the convention center. They have NO supplies there FGS. It's something I cannot imagine, where is the water? Food?

It's criminal at this point that the police just pass by without any word of when help will come.

Yes. If they require dialysis and have limited kidney function, they won't last too much longer.
And I suppose if they had no insulin most of them would already be dead.

The scanners report that an Air Traffic Control flight from Texas is coming in; flights over the city are suspended at night; someone's trying to contact the St. Charles EOC; other units are asking for direction to the Dome; and the fire units are working to some extent.

The supplemental lighting is available for the police.

State Troop B has accomplished its mission, whatever it was.

HQ 10-59, get Highway One on the radio for me... sounds like people are getting their heads out now help is on the way.

Not if you have been paying attention to cultural shift the last decade.

I know there's a LOT of sensationalism on the cables right now...but I'm really beginning to wonder ..where are the buses?

What I know - this morning at around 6:00 eastern - they had 200 busses line up; to be brought up in columns of ten.

I heard that some of them got rolling.

What I do not know, Did all 200 get on the road? Was that all the busses thy ever found?. When that got to Houston did they head back to NO? Can they be refueled?

I did read that more folks are gathering at the SD. How many? Have we got boots on the ground to counter (kill) the gangbangers yet?

They ought to shoot half the anchors, maybe all the national anchors to a small island in the pacific somewhere. The ultimate game of survivor. Might be interesting to watch.

Which half? lol (/sarc)

Just kiddin'! :)

Jesse Jackson on LK just stated he believes people are exagerating about the snipers shooting at rescuers.
Comparing NO to Iraq. We don't run from snipers in Iraq.
LK actually tried to cut him short when he started in about infrastucture budget being cut THIS year.
Throw the GRANDSTANDERS out now!!!

"They" can rebuild NO whenever they want. As long as "they" is private industry and "they" don't take one penny of "my" tax dollars. Welfare, is welfare. Subsidies, are subsidies.
