I hope he's catching his stride...

Me too. I haven't been impressed with any of his appearances in the past few days. He does a decent job of laying out the gameplan, but there is no confidence in his voice.

Cindy Sheehan and Karl Rove are both irrelevant right now. Events have passed them by.

I posted this earlier on the Live Thread - but this is a good place for a repost.

From a friend in NOLA...Someone was complaining about AF1 flying over and causing a TFR - which could have delayed rescue efforts...

Read this - from someone who is there...

This is a very overwhelming situation and it's difficult to put things into perspective at this time. There are thousands of desperate people that haven't had food, water or sleep in almost a week. They can't think straight. Shots were fired at a military chopper this morning. Although it may sometimes interfere with the rescue efforts, some safety measures still have to be taken. While the TFR was enforced and delayed other relief efforts, rescues by the coast guard and other groups were still ongoing.

Politics aside, we have to thank our President as he is responsible for getting food and water to a vast number of evacuees; a basic task that our local government failed to accomplish. After his flyover, help quickly came in force. Things started to move forward. In a crisis like this one, nothing ever happens fast enough but we have noticed significant improvements since the President took control of the rescue efforts and we should be grateful for that.

Three states have been seriously handicaped... A major city is no more and its people need to be rescued...

To all rushing out to help, it may be frustrating at times. Everyone is overwhelmed and there is not enough chiefs on site to coordinate the efforts and direct all the indians efficiently. Please be patient and don't give up. Thousands of people need your help.

...according to this idiot, Bush should have done the flyover in a helicopter...

From what I heard this morning on radio news, looters were taking pot-shots at cargo helicopters that were delivering supplies. Then they cry "where is the compassion? Where is the food and water?"

HEY A**HOLES STOP SHOOTING AT YOUR SAVIORS.

As Finman posted on another thread, until President Bush goes down there with a bucket and a rifle, start shooting looters and dumping buckets of water back in the Levy, the libs are going to disapprove.

It makes me tear up everytime I read it.

There are REAL PEOPLE down there in REAL TROUBLE...

And the Left is posturing and grandstanding.
We really need to pull together at a time like this.

Remember who the Governor and Mayor of Louisiana are. They are both toast now!

Compare New Orleans and Louisiana to how well things were handled and how much better the people behaved in Florida. The DEMS will say that President Bush rushed to help his brother but my response will be that Jeb Bush is a better Governor and organizer that the RATs in office in Louisiana.

Give Blanco some credit, she did commend President Bush today during her presser.

The hatred of the Left is mindboggling...

http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=17324_Bradblog-_Dont_Donate_to_Bush_States&only

I’m not going to post the piece I started to write.

My original reaction to the Katrina catastrophe was going to be: “NOT ONE DIME.”

For an hour or so, I contemplated the idea of turning it into a crusade: No-one in the blue states (where the money is) should give one dime of aid to the victims of this hurricane, which devastated Bush-friendly regions.

Why did I flirt with such a callous attitude?

Because it should be obvious to all that this tragedy was not just an act of God. Dubya and his diety conspired to transform mere disaster into an unprecedented mega-catastrophe. ...

So why was I thinking of starting a movement against giving aid to the stricken areas?

Because these are red states. They voted for Bush. These ninnies obviously wanted these policies, and they deserve to live with the consequences of their votes.

A large part of me still believes that many of these W-worshipping numbskulls deserve to suffer and to die. They brought it on themselves. Let them look to Jayzuss for aid: It’s time they stopped leeching off the more productive blue staters.

(Californians stupidly give much more to the federal government than we receive from it; the money flows in a very different direction in the red states.)

So, at least, I started to write. But then (to paraphrase the old song) I thought I’d better think it out again.

Many of the victims, the ones who have suffered the most, are poor. The hardest hit were the blue state folk living among the red state maniacs. New Orleans, we should note, went heavily for Kerry.

And that’s why we must help. Although it was very tempting to say otherwise.

But let us make one thing clear: We WILL politicize this issue.

...blink.... as I sit in stunned silence I can't help but thinking in regard to this Californian, what will you say when "the big one" hits your state? My response will be the same to you as it is now. My thoughts and prayers will go out to you, and whatever charitable donations I can muster.

These people are another species as far as I'm concerned. Something less than human.

The leadership in Louisiana has completely fumbled the ball, but what's happened here is several orders of magnitude worse than anything that happened in Florida. This is the worst natural catastrophe to hit the United States. There will probably be more loss of life than at any time since the Civil War. Had Jeb been in charge he might have done a better job, but this situation is more than anybody would have been able to handle well.

Bush to View Hurricane Devastation Friday
Sep 01 10:14 AM US/Eastern

By NEDRA PICKLER
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON

President Bush will tour the hurricane devastated Gulf Coast region on Friday and has asked former Presidents Clinton and Bush to lead a private fund-raising campaign to help victims recover, the White House said Thursday.

White House press secretary Scott McClellan said Bush will survey the hardest-hit areas by helicopter, then tour some locations on the ground.

You are right. May the Lord, the Mighty God give His angels charge over our President. Hide him in the shelter of Your wings, O Lord, until these calamities have passed.

Bush and Katrina? Let's see - he declared a disaster area even before the storm struck.

I do wonder why he hasn't taken it on himself to declare Martial Law for the NO area. The Governor of LA seems to not have the backbone, and the Mayor of NO is begging for help....

So I don't know that all that could be done, is being done.

Remember that this is across three states. BUT, there in only a problem in ONE place...New Orleans.

In Florida the storm turned at the last minute so the preparations were at the wrong lace. In New Orleans the people were told to get out because it would be a DIRECT HIT but it turned away from New Orleans. They didn't get out.

Jeb WOULD have done a better job. The government in Louisiana is as dumb as some of its looter citizens.
