No one wanted to speak out against looting at first for fear of being called a Racist.
And the rest of the people said that they were just looting for necessary items.
What will be the excuse now?
At some point these idiots taking shots a choppers are going to kill somebody. This is nuts.
Military gunships cannot operate within any city in the United States of America unless the Governor of a state declares Martial Law.
Despite the rumors that martial law has been declared, Secretary Chertoff made it clear that Governor Blanco has not done so.
The military can assist with rescue, but they cannot operate with law enforcement to quell unrest. Unfortunately.
WHYWHYWHY?? Even if they're looters, what could possibly cause anyone to see an advantage in shooting at folks trying to evacuate from a hospital!
It's a modern day Babylon.
Remember the La Attorney General's comments on H&C a couple of nights ago? How he stated looters were only trying to survive, and the La Gov Blanco basically said the same thing. They should have been shooting looters on site from day one and they would not be in the mess we see now.
Jesse, Al, Chuck, Ted, Barbara, Hillary and Patrick will all have soooo much to say!
I don't know if anyone has made this remark - I can't possibly read all these threads/comments but what scares me about this scenario more than anything is that if we should ever come under terrorist attack (serious attack), this could potentially happen in any city in the U.S. where there are these subclasses of people that are immune to any civilized aspects of society.

The delay in action by Nagin and the Governor have lead to this. But now, this is the Fed Gov'ts purview and they needed to act YESTERDAY.

What kind of anger against our past wrongs must've been harbored by these fine citizens? I suggest a council led by the U.N. to address the inequities. Then I think we should open the checkbooks and write the wrongs. Then these fine citizens should be given places of authority throughout America. Maybe we re-write the Constitution to make them Super-Citizens with more rights then the rest of us.
