Ten Year Old Arrested for Giving Food to Terri Schiavo Apologizes

Joshua's arrestTAMPA BAY, August 31, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Ten year-old Joshua Heldreth, the eldest of eight children, was arrested on Good Friday of this year for trespassing while attempting to bring a drink of water to Miss Terri Schaivo.  Days later Schiavo died of intentional dehydration.  In court Joshua pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 25 hours of community service and ordered to write an apology for his actions.

The boy whose arrest photo was splashed on front pages of newspapers across the nation wrote in his apology letter, "I was arrested on Good Friday for trespassing on the hospice center's property . . . Not giving Mrs. Shiavo (sic) food or water was wrong.  The reason I had to go on your property was because Jesus would do the same thing.  It made me sad that she was so thirsty and it made Jesus sad too.  I knew she would die without water and I am called by Jesus to be a defender of the defenceless.  So I had to go on your property to try to bring her a drink."

Joshua added, "I am sorry that you didn't like that and wouldn't allow me to help save her life and one day you will have to tell God why.  I won't be able to help you then like I tried to help her. I will pray for you every day . . ."

LifeSiteNews.com caught up with Joshua's father Scott Heldreth today.  Scott told LifeSiteNews.com he is very proud of his son.  "My son has amazed me through this whole thing," said Heldreth.  The proud father said it was his son's own initiative to attempt to give the starving woman a glass of water, and despite the warning of his parents that he'd be arrested, the boy insisted.  "He was the one who begged us to go down, because he wanted to give her a glass of water . . . We explained that police will never let you help . . . you'll be arrested, but he went anyways."

Pro-life leader Rev. Flip Benham of Operation Save America told LifeSiteNews.com that the whole pro-life movement shares Heldreth's pride in his son.  Benham recalls the reaction of Heldreth on Good Friday as he watched his son being arrested: "When that all took place Scott was weeping, this father was weeping tears of joy seeing his son not only talk the Christian talk but walk the walk."

While the apology letter has been submitted, Heldreth told LifeSiteNews.com he's not completely sure it will be accepted.

You believe he came to his decision independently of his parents? I sure don't.

I was standing right there. This wonderful family discussed it at length, and the parents told them to do what their conscience dictated. They did.

I find the whole family to be highly admirable.

I second that, EV. The family was admirable and so was he.

Terri is a blessing to many and her legacy lives on. She woke up a nation. Now a hurricane gives another lesson in needless human suffering. We must love one another and the media it seems is trying to start a race war. There is no racial divide. All are God's children.

Some people were totally freaked out when Terri was being murdered. I wasn't one of them but I can understand that there was a feeling of hopelessness when the ambulance never came. By that time, we were certainly stunned and exhausted. She was martyred. Judge Whittemore was no random pick from five in Tampa Federal Court. I wish somebody would investigate the selection process. It was judge shopping imo. He's as corrupt as J. Greer.

Whittemore is a snake. TEJ, if you're looking in, FV suggests an interesting point to research.

A good summary, and as this is by Diana Lynne, the author of the forthcoming book, the article pretty well answers FV's question in #426. Lynne seems to be an exceptionally able and careful reporter, and I don't imagine that her book will bring much comfort to Michael Schiavo.

Each time Monsignor came from visiting Terri, he would encourage us on matters of faith and drive away the feelings of hopelessness and dispair. I did feel an anger, a fury that the things anyone would expect to see did not materialize.

When I was at Judge Whittemore's hearing, outside, vultures circled over the building. I think I realized already the fix was in with that guy. His delay before ruling was calculatedly cruel.

Yes, those were REAL VULTURES. They could have the building of their choice in downtown Tampa but appropriately, they circled the Tampa Federal Court, Middle District of Florida.

Judge James Whittemore was the chosen dealer of death to insure that tube would never get back in in time. Then Tallahassee ran out the clock and JUDGE GREER took over PINELLAS COUNTY.

I hope America is reading this thread. What happened in Tampa Bay as we have reported, (not the MSM) is the TRUTH. A probate judge had command of a hospice facility, of all law enforcement, ordered Terri's murder, I think he may have had command of Morton Plant Hospital too (they were afraid they would have to readmit her to save her again). JUDGE GREER defied the US Congress and the President of the United States and Governor Bush and at that point, I realized that one should not place their trust in the govt. They will be sorely dissappointed.

Yes, I hope it's not just smoke and mirrors. There will always be the perception that not enough was done to save Terri on the death squad's third attempt.

Terri was martyred. USDOJ and HHS received many complaints going back to 2000. Maybe they are trying to save themselves by announcing a probe.

Someone needs to be prosecuted and if Martha Stewart can go to jail, why not people involved in a scheme to rob and kill someone?

Thanks for your background link. We want justice for Terri and for this type of felonious activity to be deemed ILLEGAL in future situations. Of course it was illegal but let's push to federalize a ban. Florida's the starvation state. We don't want Florida's felonious culture of death to spread to other states.

Louisiana saw what Florida had done and they have a law against Terri type murders. Stop Terri type murders in your state. That's a quick way to put it. Her death can be equated with a mob hit. RICO statutes were violated and that always brings RICO trolls out of the woodwork. It's true.

Can't find your suggested book title. Ad slogan: WANT TO OFF YOUR LOVED ONE? STOP BY THE JUDGE SHOP IN FLORIDA (like that one?).

"those were REAL VULTURES"

If Joe Redner was invited by Whittemore to be in the court room that day, the vultures were all over the place. I'm wondering what connection Whittemore and Radner REALLY have.

Your title is sexier than his :-) :-)

I would change "off" to "snuff." Otherwise it's a go. Now let's go find a Hollywood producer.

No. Pinellas County is so cheap, they use artificial vultures.

Is there a web site along the lines of "De Judge Whittemorewatch" where items about him are posted? I bet he has quite a few skeletons in his closet.

Redner is a member of the atheists of Florida and the ACLU. Birds of a feather flock together. They might both be into porn too. The judges in Tampa Bay have been in trouble for porn before.
