President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

I realize that there has never been a disaster of this proportion, but it seems terribly unorganized. Guess that's what you get from a state run by Dems.
And that reply is very fitting, considering the situation. Wasn't Amazing Grace written in the midst of a horrible storm at sea? I'll have to look it up.
I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Please try to keep the faith. You are alive and safe - and you have a big nation of people ready to assist you. {{{hugs}}}
Check it OUT!!!!!!! The National Guard is landing on the roof of the SD!!
prayers lifted on your behalf.
So silly. So you actually believe all that crap about politicians "rolling up their sleeves and helping?" C'mon, surely you can't be that naive. We don't elect our leaders to get in the trenches with everybody else, we elect them to lead. Bush can get a lot more done from the White House than he can handing out MRE's for the obligatory "photo opportunity." I'm glad he's not as shallow as most politicians.
Yes! It was!
What does DMAT stand for pitinkie?
Supplies of some sort being unloaded at Superdome. MRE's? Water?
He did try. First, when a police officer walked by, he kept asking questions to get any info, and the policeman just kept walking silently by. Then Shep explained that all the police radio system is down (since the storm hit) so many of the police have no info, no communication, no orders, no plan. The lucky ones have patrol cars or vans and can get updates from the precinct stations that are operational.
Shep then did an interview with a spokeswoman for the LA state police. Asked many specific questions, got no answers other than a few generalities. Asked where exactly they should go, what message would you tell them, where can they get water or evacuation? All she could answer are that there are places people are being picked up, but wouldn't name any of them. Useless information, with uncomfortable blinking and squirming. What can Shep tell them if when cornered on nat;l TV the state trooper couldn't give him any info?

Yes. It's starting to look as though the military and federal officials and their efforts are beginning. I hope they can get control of what's left of New Orleans.
You are exactly right. I agree with you 100%. The ineptness of the N.O. mayor and Governer is unbelievable. They had no plan whatsoever. Sure, they will say they had a plan but, Katrina and the aftermath was so bad they could not implement there contingency plans, but I don't buy it for a minute!! It is obvious they had no plan before and after the fact. That's why I knew it was just a matter of time that they would find a way to blame Bush.
We watched one view of 6 of these landing at once...
They are estimating 8 days to get everyone out of New Orleans....There will be more than enough work.
Prayers are going up right now for you and your family.
