President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

I noticed the tic also. Perhaps it's truly a medical thing that gets bad under stress.

Most of us are grown ups and can take it.

Not the uninformed relatives. It's not like seeing unknown people in Thailand floating around. People have relatives all over the country.

I have been watching WWL -- those Coast Guard helicopter crews are nothing short of amazing.

That's not true. Our carrier after the tsunami hit took days to get to the scene.

As well it should. Aren't we a little closer though?

This would be shocking if it weren't for the fact that it was from different agencies, of different languages, nations, and cultures.

Think about this. New Orleans is going to be deserted for months. The only thing that would happen to that food is that it would get eaten by vermin. So I wouldn't be too upset if some human picks it up and eats it.

They had one pilot on a bit earlier, can't recall which network. He looked so damned young. Good, straight-talking and polite young man. I must be getting old...:-)

Yes, I certainly do.

And you just made my point for me; everybody, even the sick, were ABLE to get there.

The only ones who didn't get there were the ones who didn't want to.

And now before we can clean up New Orleans, we're going to have to go get them.

Southern cops must be of the more "control freak" variety than the heroes up here.

"Yes. You are right. But how's that supposed to help those who are trapped if she did know and the MSM Broadcasts it? The people trapped there aren't going to be watching the broadcast."

He asked her directly for info. He said: "I will pass this informatiuon along to all thgese folks here."

Nothing.

He also asked the cop who was taking pictures. WHy couldn't the Cop stop and say let me see if I can get someone here to answer that, or I am out of direct communication with those in charge but I will get the info through. No instead he just stonewalled and left.

Sorry but that is not what I call helping. This guy was hired to be a public servant and he had a shot to help there instead he clamed up.

On the news, I saw Black Hawks and Sea Stallions dropping food and water to the Super dome.

They probably aren't going into the city as it is a war zone now.

The carrier was in Japan. Navy ships are not prepared to put out to sea at a moment's notice. It takes a while to get the correct equipment/supplies on board.

I could be mistaken but I beleive that even Balimore's wacky boy-mayor, Martin O'Malley invested in an improved communications system for Baltimore's fire and police after 9/11
