President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Well done.
How can you say that CNN is reporting lies? Pictures do not lie....Likewise, some of the phone callers are likely telling the truth. Even the wealthy patrons of the Ritz Carlton are running out of food now...
Both Fox and CNN are reporting much of the same, however CNN seems to be focusing more on New Orleans than the rest of the Gulf states.
Just to let you all know..my Husbands DMAT team is STILL in Alabama after 4 days...not being used.
That isnt what is going on.
They will be shot if they shoot at the cops...or are armed and dont disarm themselves.
Will Some send a copy of the Constitution to those idiots
The President cannot just take Control of a State
He is doing everything in his powers to help the people in NO
WHICH IS A HECK OF A LOT MORE THEN WHAT THEIR GOV. HAS DONE!
Shermy, didn't we hear before the storm that the NO PD sent their people home?
I also searched under "oil" and found out more information as well including that they are getting the Loop up and running.
Someone needs to tell Shep. He has TV vision. If it isn't going on in his own 32" diaganol, then it's not happening.
drugs and food there.
THey are replaying the agitated masses complaining about bush, blah blah, my baby is 11 months old, blah blah, this isn't iraq, blah blah.
I say leave them to die. they walk around bitching about things but they can still just walk out of NO if it is that bad. I mean they are waiting for busses, why don't they just walk out?
looks at some of the nurse posts from nola.com/forums/orleans
I heard that
Isn't Shep at the Superdome?
Ouch. Hurts to hear that. I know he and others are itching to help.
Hopefully that isn't what is going on...but that is what alot of FReeper's want to see. I have nothing against shooting at armed people who are shooting at police.
I'm a 54 year old who has been around a bit. You would think I would know better than to trust MSM reportage. They have it in their mind that New Orleans is a quagmire and nothing will shake them from that thought. All pessimism all the time.
I'm sorry but your "Blame Bush if you lose your keys" made me laugh...
It is sad but true - even people who you would THINK would know better. The scope of this mess is SO enormous - I think rescue, etc have been going on all long - yet everyone focuses on the negative. Few posts up - only 2400 left in the dome.. now that was moving pretty fast.. considering they halted for a while this morning.
She's STILL blaming everyone else. Perhaps if the thugs would stop shooting at people, the press will quit reporting it.
Blanco is blanko. What a twit.
Thank you Polly. I THINK its Jackson. He said 15 miles from Biloxi and near the beach - I've never been to Mississippi and don't know the area - and he expects that the hurricane wiped it out because he did see pictures of areas he recognized on the highways near his area. I'll give him the information.
We are assuming that since he can't contact anyone at the house and that they haven't contacted his brother in Chicago that its probably serious.
They'll be plenty to do.
friend of mine at church last night in the GA Fish/Wildlife was told to expect to be gone for 3 month shifts shortly.
