President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Onyx has been reached by cell phone and she's okay. No power, etc., but they are safe in their home.

"I'm with you. I swear, if anybody aound here starts to get political about this, I'm going to forget that I'm trying to be a good Christian man. I'll go redneck on 'em."

Then you better avoid the threads regarding columns written by Howell Rains and Sidney Blumenthal and RFK Jr (or was it Patrick Kennedy?), all blaming Bush for the hurricane itself and/or the alleged slow relief effort.

Fox News - they're even shooting volunteers in small boats in New Orleans; that effort has been suspended.

I wish there was a way to seal these domestic terrorists inside the city and leave them to the gators and fire ants.

I never thought I would say this, but I am angry almost to the point that I am thinking that we should liquidate these bastards.

Been like that for years....crack made it worse, but the infrastructure was there before the money from crack really ripped it open.

The mayor has not given a shoot to kill order but has said "you do what you have to do to restore order."

Maintaining that plausible deniability: "I never told anyone to shoot to kill...not a single time!"

FEMA should not shut down Zephyr field.

I'd have to agree; that is a great staging area.

That was actually a New York Post reporter who encountered the guy (or guys) with the Ryder Truck and the AK-47, not to mention an attitude, where a shot was heard shortly after the incident.

I'm leaving to go out and will check in later. FEMA tells EMT's that it's too dangerous to go into the water because of the water and presumably the violence. (per FNC)
