The reports yesterday were that the astrodome would be limited to 27,000. I am certain that Houston and Texas officials, who are not understaffed or overwhelmed by the situation, will have a much larger police presence in the midst of the refugees, as well as lights, A/C, water, food, working toilets, and far, far better sanitary conditions. There is even a child care area and showers set up. I haven't heard anything, but wouldn't be surprised if there is a separation of the males from the women and children unless they are with their families.
I would say the content of his story has not changed that much then.
GET SOME!!!!!!
Great news. So we get to see your happy side today?
There are words that describe the type of people who behave like that, but I can't use them on FR
Sorry - had phone calls in the office, etc. - back on line - listening - not sure what's happened in last 15 minutes or so . . .
Suggestion: "You S**t Is Our Bread & Butter"
WDSU (link with the article here) has video, but it's The Today Show right now. Sucks.
If someone can add this to our thread...
I have read from people here online about wanting to offer temporary housing to people.
If you go to www.swern.gov you can create and account and offer up a room for rent or housing to people that are displaced.
Please do so now if you can.

This is such a shame for the good people of Louisiana. The mayor has not given a shoot to kill order but has said "you do what you have to do to restore order." From radio report.

Yep, Modadishu on the Mississippi, Baghdad on the Bayou...
Who knew how bad it was . . .
Don't forget that someone fired a shot just then, but the Fox reporter doesn't believe it came from the truck.
There's a DHS/Red Cross briefing on now on CNN and Fox News. Also, Fox News is reporting that Pres. Bush will tour the Gulf Coast on Friday.
You know, we can post what we like within limits - but I don't find that response helpful at this time to those reading the thread, even if you omitted the sarcasm tag. Troops are needed to bring the situation under control. Just my opinion.
It sounds like the first 10 buses have just moved out and that they are moving in the next 10 buses. Security troops are watching for them up road.
I don't know if it is the coverage of this event, truly a reality of the event or what? Last night as I laid down to sleep, my thoughts were on what is happening in NO. Not the evacuations as such, but the amount of violence we're witnessing and I fell asleep puzzeled by it.
Floridians often seem to pull together, help each other, and in most events that's is what we get highly broadcast. New Yorkers seemed to do the same thing. Sure, there were some elements that tried to take advantage, but it was never to the extent we're seeing today. It seems to me that the coverage of this event is different. The focus is on the seedy element.
Then, it finally struck me. At what time have we ever abandoned an entire city? I think that's the difference. The people in Florida or New York have hope to rebuild and it appears the people of NO have no hope. The looters and violence being exhibited by the criminal element is because the good people have had hope taken away from them. Hope for a home to come back too, hope for the way of life they had, loss of hope.
Perhaps I just can't comprehend what's happening, but in my mind if I were there now as a victim and shots being fired at the very people trying to help me. I'd start walking that freeway those buses were coming from. Refugees all over the world walk great distances to get to safety and I'd walk out of NO or die trying.
Katie looks waxen and bloated...grimacing.
