President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Every time I see the "leaders" down here, I can't help think of Rudy. Like him or hate him, he was a leader when it counted.

"I heard that the "moat" around the Super Dome was 5 feet deep. Are you aware of spots which would be easy to cross? How are you aware of this and Shep, standing there, is not?"

This is the trouble I am having with the Shep haters. They say he should know this info yet he asked a COP on that same bridge and the Spokes Person form the State Troopers and neither of them could could impart this supposedly painfully obvious info.

I believe these folks just have a beef with Shep and the reporters there. If not they would ask these same questions. But they just skim over them and hammer away and constantly change there story when asked why the authorities could not impart this "Obvious" information when asked by the reporters.

What makes you think it was an "unused" bus?

We don't know who it belongs to or where they got it.

The mothers with babies are one thing... one said she was hitch-hiking with a small baby (she had in her arms) but the others... if they stole the bus... well.. deal with them Texas-justice-style...

The reporter knew it, too. He had already heard that the bus didn't come from the dome......especially since some of the passengers told them right away that they were never in the dome. Others around them tried to shut them up and said, "yes, you were in the dome." Makes me sick. Some of the people on the bus probably had no clue, but the driver and the ones that ran away sure as heck did!

No, earlier there was a report that FEMA is in the process of setting up tent cities for 750,000 (!) in LA. There will be incidents, but it won't spiral out of control. The military IS being mobilized, big time. But it will take a bit of time.

We survived the dust bowl, we'll survive this.

Thank you.

That's exactly right. Sporadic firefights by day in between relief missions, all out attacks at night.

I think it was Shep and his crew (that so many love to trash) that gave them something for that child.. and ice to rub him down with.

How could he call his dad? Phones aren't working. If he called his dad....why didn't he call authorities?

Maybe he knows how inneffective the authorities have been...

They "stole" a bus from a city that did not offer them an evac before the stom hit. They have lived through 48hrs of hell. Unless they stole a bus that was allocated for the dome, I see no issue with it. They are being resourceful. Wouldn't you be resourceful in such a dire situation?

"Here I am suckered in by this guy, and he probably took this thing at gun point and got stoned on the way."

I think all major US cities have lots of these types now living in them. I can see the same thing happening in Chicago, Detroit, L.A., etc.

Our cities have sunk low, very low. More and more people moving to small towns for good reason.

Sounds like we're building to a full-on riot... I recognize the signs from the two Los Angeles riots.
