Don't need to hear that now.
I try my best. It's my little way of still serving.
Bought a car from a Benson dealership when living in Boerne outside of San Antonio and the kids got pictures of New Oleans Saints players at the time. Wondered if their new home was going to be the Alamodome.
Did you see my post earlier about the cry for help for St. Bernard's? The rescuers there don't have food or water for themselves or for the people they need to rescue. They need all kinds of help there NOW!
And why are we supposed to give a pass to the Mayor or the Gov? It was frustrating watching that storm build in the Gulf and seeing the Mayor and the Gov bumble around. This goes for MS and AL too who only had 30% of the coast evac'd.
Dallas =1000
Arlington =100
Ft Worth = ???
to mention a few more.
there are folks still arguing that the MS figures are remotely credible. When I look at the storm surge, the range and height of it, I do not see how a decent % of ANYONE who stayed at home in that zone wasn't drowned.
The long-term impact on the US from this is unclear to me, but it will be very signifigant. We now have, for the first time since at least the depression, a lnotable % of the population with no roots nor home, many with NO assets at all, nor jobs, nor beds,...
Well some of St. Bernard was within the levees. That bowl along with two others, totally failed. It was too close to the eye. Will they rebuild them, or abandon? I think that except for the tourist districts in NO hugging the river levees, which are the tourist areas, the whole place should be abandoned. The port should be moved to Baton Rouge.
I'm kind of partial to that "Hurricane Special" Aero Bed.
Wonder if QVC is having a special on those?
More of the non-help by the Feds (Air Force) -- Aaron Brown is getting snowed with these tonight -- BTW AMC is Air Mobility Command:
PRESS RELEASE -- Secretary of the Air Force, Office of Public Affairs
Release No. 070805
August 31, 2005
AMC answering humanitarian call in aftermath of Katrina
SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. - The Tanker Airlift Control Center here started generating missions Air Mobility Command aircrews will fly supporting Hurricane Katrina relief operations in Louisiana and Mississippi.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency, through Northern Command and U.S. Transportation Command, asked for airlift support to fly relief supplies to the stricken region, said Col. Jeff Franklin, the center controller working hurricane relief mission taskings.
"We've already tasked two aeromedical evacuation airlift missions to fly from Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss., to (Lackland AFB) in San Antonio," he said. "In addition, AMC has been tasked to fly five other strategic airlift missions into Lafayette Regional Airport in Lafayette, La. Four of those are C-5 (Galaxys) and the other is a C-17 (Globemaster III)."
A mix of total force Airmen from active-duty, Guard and Reserve bases nationwide are flying the missions, the colonel said. They will move everything from inflatable boats to urban search and rescue team members and their equipment. Because airports and airfields in the Biloxi and New Orleans areas are without power because of extensive damage from the hurricane's high winds, rain and flooding, aircraft are primarily flying cargo and people into Lafayette, located northwest of the coastal areas.
There has not been a staging area established for incoming cargo and people yet, the colonel said. However, the 615th Contingency Response Wing at Travis Air Force Base, Calif., is flying into Lafayette on the first C-5 Galaxy aircraft.
"They will serve as an advance team to help receive the aircraft and cargo, and will stay there throughout," Colonel Franklin said.
The AMC vice commander, Lt. Gen. Christopher A. Kelly, said the command is ready and committed to supporting the relief operations.
"AMC Airmen are capable of providing the emergency response support needed to help the region begin recovering from this devastating hurricane," he said. "They proved their capabilities and worth during tsunami relief operations in December and January. And, just like it was then, airlift will be a central part of this operation.
The general said he command will "work hard" to meet every request any of the agency "sends our way."
Are you deliberately playing dumb? Ever hear of states rights? Ever read the constitution? Ever hear of posse comitatus?
Prayers.
Everywhere people need help NOW. It is numbing.
My son in law just emailed to tell me NO should be allowed to sit in water as part of the Lake and be rebuilt like Venice. He says we should think of the tourist possiblities. It is an idea. Would take care of the levee problems.
Imagine. American Refugees. I think I've never seen those two words together.
Not to get off-topic but the Dome is a total loss, as is the city. I know San Antonio wants them (the Saints) but they won't get them. I think we'll see the Los Angeles Saints after this.
Just got in from work....Read the President's speech....Any other highlihgts of today's events would be appreciated.
I hope you aren't quoting me because I never suggested that we should.
I am with you on your post. And so very glad to see your name here.
I'm now convinced that this is going to be fully equivalent to 9/11. I'm hoping that the death toll isn't as high as some are warning, but it is clear to me that the we have on the order of a million Americans, and associated workplaces, who are going to require our attention. I'm more and more speechless contemplating the magnitude of this seminal event in our history.
I have a feeling these are not going to be "glowing" reviews of what his going on.
