LOL!
You got that right. We just love to panic here in Atl. Even the mere hint of "wintery precipitation" and the grocery stores are cleaned out. Usually happens 2-3 times a year. LOL

Oh damn! I probably just started another panic.

What most people don't understand is that the largest supply of gasoline in the U.S. -- by a very wide margin -- is the combined fuel that is "stored" in the gas tanks of all our vehicles.

How do you figure that? The latest inventory number for gasoline was 194.4 mbl or 8.165 billion gallons. How many cars are there? 120 million? times 20 gallons? 2.4 billion gallons.

I don't know how it will work. And will the insurance companies actually be able to afford the claims?

Premiums just went up.

How is that "inventory" counted? I find it hard to believe that there are 8+ billion gallons of gasoline stored in tanks all over the U.S. More likely, "inventory" is any gasoline that has already been purchased at the wholesale level and not yet sold at the retail level. This would include a lot of gasoline that hasn't even been shipped yet -- and may not even be in the United States right now (if it is refined overseas).

How true.

When I filled up last night my tank was almost empty (I tend to go to almost the last drop). Husband said use his work gas card--so mine was not technically panic buying. It was "let the company pay for it before he changed his mind." And of course I filled up--

Sometimes you have to move quick.

Husband's was sorta panic. Mine was a free tank.

Will they be able to afford it?

The insurance companies are the richest companies in the world. Why are they rich? Because you pay in and they never pay out.

They started it this morning at 5:00am on WSB with stories of "possible" gas shortages in ATL.

That's exactly right and the report was totally unjustified. They kept reporting it at least up until 10 AM. Now WSB is claiming it was a wild "internet" rumor. Lying b######s.

I commute to Gainesville GA every day. The non-English-speaker at the Shell station told me Monday that before the end of the week, we'd not be able to afford to drive. I believe him now. I'm on my motorcycle from now on...

That sounds like a sound idea. You won't be able to swim in it though because you would sink.
