I sure hope that White House press corps folks were also in AF1 looking at reality during the flyover. If that doesn't cause them to do some straight reporting of our President for a few days, then absolutely nothing will.

It's a nice thought and I hope to be pleasently surprised.

But I don't expect to be.

The RATS will find a way to crab at the Pres. Probably bring out the greens to wring their hands over the fuel blends or temporary suspension of Clean Air Act.

And let's not forget the budgetary impact.

Don't know why that struck me so funny

I think we're all a bit punchy.

You heard correctly.

This was INTENDED as an accountant's checklist - telling people affected what was being done for them, telling the rest of us how bad it is.

You want sentiment instead of action? That feeds and saves no one. There will be time for sentiment later, but even better will be results of action.

Get real.

where are the other 522,000 people from N.O.?

Jackson (which has problems of its own), Vicksburg, Monroe, Shreveport, Alexandria, Lake Charles, Houston, Beaumont, Orange, to start the list.

I believe it is around fifty, not fifteen.

All the worse.

Why don't you just STUFF IT with the speech crique. What matters is WHAT he said and not HOW he said it. He is plain spoken and I like it that way.....no fancy florishes. It's not the time or place to be so concerned about stylish phrasing.

"1. We start drilling the Artic next week.
2. 10 new refineries will begin construction in the followeing red states. . .
3. One blend of fuel may be used across the USA.

Any questions?"

I agree with your post. Unfortunately it is time to realize that There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch (TAANSTFL). The country voted for unrestrained environmentalism and now the chickens are home to roost and we will pay for our green indulgence.

Even if every conservative proposal were enacted last week it would take years to build: nuclear power plants, new refineries, and to explore and drill the Arctic.

But enjoy your nice clean environment. Here's the bill leave a tip if you want.

Have you really been thinking those things? I thought it was just me.

I heard somebody, Matthews maybe, saying that this Homeland Security taking over was the "test drive" for civil defense in this country and it started me thinking he's right; I mean, what if there is a disaster (like another attack)....we need to all look at these pictures and start thinking about our situations.

I'm going to talk to my kids about it.

Didn't you hear; the tip is now a mandatory maxi-sized service charge.

I really don't give a damn what Ronald Reagan would or would not have done, and no one knows what he would have said or done since he never faced anything like this.

Nor did I want a SOU Address. All I wanted from the President is what I got. Action. Bluntless. Detail and Leadership. This is what the American people wanted in majority, not rhetorical florishes that do nothing to ease suffering or anxiety.

Maryland's Governor Ehrlich ordered NG mobilized this morning, to be sent to Mississippi, IIRC.

Plus, Balto Gas & Electric Company had crews on the road to LA on monday.

Yeah - much worse.

I just can't get over that it is likely we have near a MILLION PEOPLE who will need assistance - housing - total rebuild of the infrastructure about them.

This is going to be a huge story for months, and possibly YEARS to come.

Ronald Reagan would have had a different response.

Give up, Peggy, we're on to you :^)

We heard action and leadership from the President, because no state or local official in Louisiana has demonstrated any such leadership.

People now have reassurance that someone is in charge and that the full weight of the federal govt will be brought to bear.

I have the feeling that Bush and company are furious with Blanco and her ineptitude.
