But when he placed a bumper sticker supporting traditional marriage in his own cubicle, his supervisor ordered him to remove it.

I'm curious, what did the bumper sticker say?

Attorney and PJI president Brad Dacus says the First Amendment prohibits employers from discriminating against a worker based on his or her personal, political, or religious viewpoints.

The FA says Congress shall make no law abridging Freedom of Speech. I can't find a word in there about "employers."

"Attorney and PJI president Brad Dacus says the First Amendment prohibits employers from discriminating against a worker based on his or her personal, political, or religious viewpoints"

THe First Amendment says nada about "personal and politcal" viewpoints in the workplace. Did this guy get his law degree by mail order?

The "free speech" garanteed in the 1st amendment applies to the government, not private businesses.

Something in my gut tells me that the content of the bumper sticker was inappropriate in its language. I'm not talking about the message, I'm talking about the language.

Whatever else is going on here, this statement is not true.

I live in CA - and this doesn't surprise me one bit.

It's "in" to be anti-religion, anti-traditional family, anti-marriage, anti-American, etc. You seem "cool" if you support gay rights over hetero rights. Gays are everywhere DEMANDING their acceptance by shoving their version of life down our throats.

It's gotten so bad, many of us won't put bumperstickers on our cars for fear of vandalism. But, you can have all the anti-American stickers on your volvo that you want.

It's out of hand - and the backlash will come.

I hope.

This is a strange article. The employer isn't even named. This almost looks like an article written for fund raising purposes.

Attorney and PJI president Brad Dacus says the First Amendment prohibits employers from discriminating against a worker based on his or her personal, political, or religious viewpoints. "We commend this employee for taking a stand for traditional marriage," he says, "and we are committed to standing with him in federal court."

I wouldn't want this attorney arguing my case. There may be discrimination laws that apply here, but the First Amendment has nothing to do with this case. If he tries to argue this based on the First Amendment, he will be laughed out of court. Argue based on federal laws against discrimination based on religious views or whatever, but let's not further distort the First Amendment by trying to apply it where it doesn't apply.

"I was told that I could listen to the radio at a reasonable volume from nine to eleven, I told bill that if Sandra is going to listen to her headphones while she's filing then I should be able to listen to the radio while I'm collating so I don't see why I should have to turn down the radio because I enjoy listening at a reasonable volume from nine to eleven."

Who, how, when....etc. is missing. This is just a promotional piece for the Pacific Justice Institute as it stands now. Need some facts.

Gee, they didn't offer him 'sensitivity training' before demoting him? I suppose if he wanted to gush on about gay marriage or paganism, that would be terrific, promotion worthy behavior.

I googled the story and another article states the bumper sticker read "Marriage = man + woman" if anyone is curious.

This is from the other article.

This employee works in an office environment where co-workers are permitted to have personal, religious, and even political messages in their cubicles. He decided to take a stand for traditional values by posting a bumper sticker in his cubicle that stated, "Marriage = man + woman." His supervisor ordered him to remove the sticker because it was deemed "offensive." Even though he graciously complied, he was reprimanded and demoted.
