It is with heavy heart I write this...
I have finally reconnected with my best friend who is a paramedic who was sent from Georgia 2 days ago to Gulf Port, Mississippi before the hurricane hit.
He just reached me within the last 10 mins via emergency cell phone to tell me he was alive.
Thousands of bodies have been discovered throughout Mississippi in Gulf Port, Waveland,Hancock County,Bay of St.Louis.
They are hanging in trees and they are pulling them out 30 at a time. Entire families found drowned in their homes and washing up on shore.
The stories he could tell me were brief. National Guard is on the scene and arresting anyone seen on the streets.
The numbers are staggering and what I have been told tonight will shake people to their foundation as the numbers will be coming out in the next 24-hours of just how many people have actually perished in these and 3 other beach communities.
More to follow....
Ya know...I don't know you, though I've been posting on FR off and on for some time and steadily since 9/11 on LGF but your tone with a lot of people this morning is meanspirited and critical. Personally, I'm of an open mind about the casualty figures and would love to believe that you are right. But I have been through a hurricane myself before and I certainly remember seeing the pictures of the dead from the tsunami, and not all of them were in trees. Some where in the flotsom and jetsom left at the edge of the storm surge. Thousands of them.
Maybe you DO know more than the rest of us; maybe you ARE smarter...but you're certainly NOT NICER. Right now...NICE and KIND need a bit more emphasis than arrogance and perfectionism. G*d Bless you too!
Is that lake also below sea level? Why haven't they built a canal so they can drain the thing?
It's proof of what the admin will tolerate and allow. The decision is questionable, IMO.
Seen any offensive signs lately?
No, but there seem to be a tremendous number of automobiles in the debris mix. Most people would have taken their cars, imo, which creates questions about how many evacuated.
Must have been the Chinese. Or maybe the Chinese and/or Muslims hid explosive charges under the levees waiting for the right opportunity, (sarcasm off)
Ha!
I don't understand why people are doubting MFH's post. He's relaying what he heard from someone there. My only question is whether his friend is overwhelmed with the disaster in his local area, or if this is widespread. If hope it isn't the latter but when I see video of nothing but foundations for *miles*, I worry...
Get this.
If there are 1000s dead, the Mississippi Casino companies just petitioned to have the law changed where they can build on land; right now the law states they must be floating casinos. They received total destruction as the boats were smashed.
They could have floated up the Mississippi and out of harm's way as there was plenty of warning time, but decided to staty so the last $1.00 could be put in the slots.
Great timing on your request, casinio companies. At least wait till the dead are buried. Why didn't you float away! You are no different than the looters who stayed behind to steal and raise chaos.
Another note..........
When I see these levee breaks and water puring into New Orleans, all I can visualize are the hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars that have flowed to foreign nations.
We did not upgrade the levee system enough, but we sure can send hundreds of billions to various corrupt dictators and terrorist nations.
My tagline sums it up all nicely (although this has been going on since LBJ).
I stand by what I said:
"The problem is people like you trying to kill the story before ANYBODY can confirm it."
And if I were a betting man, I'd wager you're going to need a new screen-name when this is over, no matter which way it goes.
If I'm not mistaken, the surge is more comparable to a fast-rising of water up not a horizontal effect like a wave. LIke the Bay of Fundy where the tide has a variance of about 50 ft between high and low tides. Tourists can get caught and wind up as casualties.
I think we have to give the media the benefit of the doubt. Was watching CNN last night and the reporters had spent 6 hours going the last 100 mi. to get to Gulfport. They say its very hard to get around and assess. Although there may be some censoring, I think its more logistical.
It is in a story here: http://www.thejacksonchannel.com/weather/4918567/detail.html
How or why would the rescuers stay silent?
BTTT
The Army Corp of Engineers is responsible for the levees and spillways and some of that money was shorted to fund the war in Iraq
Haley Barbour is telling you without saying it words of one syllable.
I only give as good as I get FD.
Nothing more...nothing less.
I merely posted the fact that I was skeptical of the story becasue of the lack of sources and that it was based on a hearsay phone call.
No one wanted to hear that this MFH might be pulling their collective leg.
*shrugs*
"With someone who has an Internet death wish and will twist any text to fit? Not really."
"Can you tell me why it is so important to you that there are thousands and thousands of dead Americans on beaches and up in the killer trees? Why, exactly, do you want this to be true so badly?"
It is you twisting the meaning of the original poster of this thread that bothers me. Its a little thing about integrity.
