The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Yes we have -- just not outside a Civil War battlefield. Side note: identifying bodies will be difficult or impossible. I think a lot of folks will never get positive word that their friends and family are dead, rather than "missing."
NBC Confirms 5 PM ET 4 CT from the Rose Garden by the prez. WDSU correcting their last.
So, did she want him to do an 8-hour pylon turn in AF1, or perhaps he should waste precious resources getting on the ground where there are thugs with guns and a willingness to use them.
I've heard the trucks aren't there yet.
That is the ONLY comparison I could even think of. We've seen nothing like this in that long and, certainly, no natural disaster this big. Hang on folks... this is going to stagger the imagination.
12 hours? It's only about 350 miles from NO to Houston.
That levee is not small and the homes on the St. Bernard side are about WAY below the top of the levee.
I was also very grateful to hear that the CBS radio local radio news had something else to report.....other than $3.00/gallon at the pumps.
I heard the same thing and I didn't get that impression from her at all.
Do you see on Fox those people on the roof of that apartment building?
"ater" = water
Oops, that may have been a premature posting about the second suicide. It appears to be the same one. Sorry.

CA Task Force 5 (Orange County Fire Authority) Urban Search and Rescue and CA Task Force 6 (Riverside County Fire) Urban Search and Rescue have received official notification for deployment to the hurricane
disaster area per a countywide dispatch this morning at 09:00 hours.

LAFD and teams from NoCal are already on site.
OMG this is heartbreaking...watching people wave flags and signs saying *help us*....
Yes. The images just keep coming. Unfathomable.
I agree; he will kick some serous butt now.
I would like to see an executive order curbing unnecessary travel. That would, of course, include Cindy Sheehan's bus tour.
Which is 6 hours in your car, on undamaged roads. On overloaded city buses it'll take longer.
