The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

What a disaster. The failures on the part of the leadership of the affected areas and states and right on up to DC is legion. The power of the sea is awesome. This time the boy was right about the wolf and too many didn't heed the warning.

Plenty of blame to go around but right now the object is search and rescue. New Orleans must be evacuated and that is proceeding at a snails pace. Now I hear they are talking about refrigerator cars for the dead. Forget refrigerator cars, if the death tolls are as high as I think they will be get the living out and cremate the dead.

God bless those poor souls and God give the courage and wisdom to our leaders to get off their asses and make the tough calls. We don't need meetings we need the POTUS to grab the bull by the horns because the locals are not up to the task.

I read it. Somewhere on an earlier thread someone said that NO had 10,000 body bags. From what that thread is saying, they may need them all to cover LA and MS..

Given the sewage, the dead (both animals and humans), and the lack of clean water to drink, we have another wave of disaster in the making.

There is just no excuse for this happening, but I am thinking the same thing.

Did you hear the guy who was interviewed on Fox a few minutes ago?

He was the first of the actual refugees that asked 'what was this plan of the mayors. There is no plan, people are frightened and emotions are high. Someone got raped here last night and people are beginning to fight with each other.'

not sure either. Hugh Hewitt has it linked on his website as unsourced junk. I guess we'll know the whole ugly truth soon.

Yeah- I know...MFH is not sensationalist.

In spite of my distrust of the MSM- it's still hard to grasp this is happening and NO ONE is willing to talk about it...OTOH:
What I'm authorized to say now is we expect the death toll to be higher than anything we've ever seen before," said Jim Pollard, civil defense spokesman for Mississippi's Harrison County, which includes Biloxi and Gulfport

looters downtown

Ca fai rein.

I've got a live computer feed from some NO TV station and I heard that lady talking about the looters breaking into the cars at the hospital.

Like I posted before, they need to be culled, just as avian flu infected birds need to be culled. Personally, anyone that would loot in these conditions is not a human.

Those troops need to start pulling the trigger finger on looters. Word will get around very quickly. I guess LA is just a blue state.

God help the rest of the survivors.

(CNN now over with the interview with the mayor)

Slidell Mayor: 12 weeks estimate before electric comes on. perhaps 10% homes not restored.

Mayor Ben Morris is very matter of fact. The kind of guy you would want as leader.

[what was interesting is the resilience of him and others that we will continue to see. as opposed to the minority of those doing the opposite, my words]

Seeing the Govenor's face the last couple of days, I have a suspicion that it might be true. However, I'm hoping against hope that it is just hype and hysteria, or a cruel hoax.

I think one of the reasons they're not talking about it is for out-of-town relatives who can't get in touch with their loved ones.

I've noticed each time they talk about the dead, they seem to preface it with "don't be alarmed if you can't get through, there's a 99 percent chance your relatives are fine."

If they created a nation wide panic they might have relatives pouring into the area in droves trying to locate their loved ones, and they can't handle that right now.

Everyone in New Orleans is evacuated or stuck on rooftops or in the Superdome, etc. Yet these looters seem to have no problem traversing the city and, presumably, stashing their loot. Where do they go? Where are they taking the baskets full of clothes and games???
