The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

they can be taken out by helicopters, or small boats, to locations where buses can take them down I-10 west.
Ask them if they want a drink.
MRE= Meal Ready to Eat- (the military eats these when in war)
I used to go to Jacksonville Florida several times a year. There is a short cut to avoid NO. I went by Amtrak a couple of times though and once had about a 3 hour lay over in NO. There was a cab driver there named "Mad Dog" He took my GS and I on a tour for 20 dollars. We probably drove 45 minutes or so and he had stories about everything. I couldn't have asked for a better tour. He told me "now you go get your husband and come on back" I hope he made it out ok. Sad
Hint..... The mayor IS AN IDIOT!
And he said they need volunteers who know the city well. He said there are no street signs and no streets and they are having trouble with orientation.
Why?
< Mandatory evacuation was not given until the president called the mayor and pressed him to order the evacuation.
Just thought I'd add that reminder. >
We aren't disputing the "mandatory" evac timing. We are discussing his press conference on Sat morning when he asked and advised people to leave. That would be all it took for me, but the truth is I would have been gone before that even.
Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
I've got a waterproof 220V pump 150 feet down in my back yard. No long shaft. Power has got to be the problem.
Last I heard only one road out of the city was passable, but since most of the city is underwater, even if you came in via that road you couldn't travel very far.
"I am suspecting the Gov is not speaking to the Mayor. Just a thought."
The Feds really need to get everyone on the same map.
She said that part of the holdup was finding an appropriate place to accomodate such a massive number of people.
However, there should have been a contingency plan drafted for that 20 years ago.
I think you left a zero off.. more likely 10,000+
God says, "Call upon Me in the day of trouble, and I will hear you......and I will send help." (Psalms)
The SD has become a filthy stink hole and unless somebody gets off their ass and saves those people, a tomb.
Assuming the reports that the current plan is to "leave the refugees there for a week while we figure out where to take them," I think the plan (hope) was that NO would not flood.
The levee repair failed. The pumps are under water. I think we may be watching the inevitable.
Hah! yes! More cowbell!! :-)
FNC: Two guys with AK-47's fired shots into police station. No officers hurt. Men fled to French Quarter.
