The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

You're in way over your head, pal. Let it go.
NO shelters to be evacuated. (No plan, naturally).

Now you know a little about what is like to be a man!
Here's my take - Nagin went to throw Blanko under the bus then got a dress down.
Trent Lott has to go on television to talk to the President because he no longer takes Lott's calls ; )
"You don't seem to appreciate the amount of potential energy that floodwaters possess."
So, the engineers didn't? Yes, things happen. the story will turn out I believe resources weren't devoted to the levees soon enough.
"I know as well as you what it will cost us. A sizable fraction of 9/11 costs in dollars, and a sizeable fraction of 9/11 cost in lives."
To be kind, you're not an insurance adjuster... much bigger than 9/11.
Well calling for a day prayer is not idiotic. At sometimes in fact most you need divine assistance as un pc as that is. I did not support Blanco I like her but I supported her opponent now congressman Jindal. I cant believe I am defending Landriiu but she didnt politice this issue. She said the same thing Conservative Bobby Jindal said today almost exactly was that we have been screaming about this fors years and the govt/nation turned a deaf year. The levee and costal erosion blame is very bi partasian
MSNBC is reporting Anderson Cooper is in trouble!
What is the final decision about that long broken bridge video we saw this afternoon? Was it the Ponchartrain Causeway or not? I really thought it was, even though we heard otherwise.
There is a photo above showing boththe breech and the mouth of the canal.
the canal is alot narrower than the breech - and duh - did it ever occur to put a lock on the mouth of the canal?
I know, I actually did break down in tears this afternoon...the total devastation of an American city
Dams break because water come under them not because it goes over them. If the water gets deep enough that is basically what happens. Once it gets on both sides, you really have problems.
Are you listening to CNN: one of their reporters said that outside of NO, people are walking around in the dark, with nowhere to go, and they all keep saying "Where do we go now? Nobody tells us where to go."
This is some damn plan.
I like how you think. But by the time Hollywood gets done with their new series showing a female president, people will have forgotten how these women cried and didn't lead.
What I haven't heard discussed is the Louisiana politics here. The mayor of NO voted for GWB and came in as a reformer. He has been exposing the rotten core in the schools and alot of former politicos are being looked at.
Now I wonder how he and Mary get along seeing as how her father was a former mayor, most certainly some of the graft occurred in his administration. And we know how dems punish anyone who doesn't toe the line.
I don't know NO politics that well but I wonder if the Mayor has been punished during this run up to the hurricane. I would bet my bippy politics was involved in the decision about evacuation.
"Well put. Some seem to think that all we need is Bruce Willis to kamikazee an ocean liner into the dike breech to save the city. Occasionally, a miracle can happen... but not on demand."
Breaches started smaller. The breaches weren't attended to soon enough.
The average person has no concept of logistics. Or what Clausewitz would describe as the "friction of war." (This isn't a war, of course, but is one functionally in many ways.)
And indeed movies and TV shows have caused people to expect problems to be neatly solved in 1 or 2 hours.
I am referring to the tourist not a mass evac of residents by major airlines to Baton rouge
Were those articles written by Mother Mary Landrieu?? /sarc.
That was my favorite line from her.
