The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

There isn't going to be a food shortage in this country. Now if you start spreading rumors saying that we all need to go fill up and we all need to go buy food THEN there will be a temp shortage.
Hell, Walmart could probably topple China by itself -- all they'd have to do is mandate that all their suppliers have to be anywhere but China (India, Indonesia, SE Asia, etc). It'd collapse their economy.
That DUmmy must be posting in the common room at the loony bin. NUTS!
Good job preserving their lunacy.
CNN: Increased looting, residents told to stay out of downtown. Also starting to rain. Car-jackings by people trying to flee the city.
Andrew compares like a windy day.
"most cruise are registered in foreign countries"
The Cruise Ships would be an excellent way for foreign countries to help out.
CNN had a reporter on that is reporting three looters have been shot near the Super Dome.
""The misunderstood fact is that these items are not just lying around waiting to be used." "
"Why not??? A levee breach was a foreseeable event from any big storm that happened to come close. Proper contingency planning dictates that these things ARE kept laying around ready to use. No excuse for the city and state not being ready for such a problem."
Exactly - and there's lots of unsalvageable vessels in the Lake that go dierctly to these breeches
After Charley hit here, I thought I'd seen the worst of mother nature...not so...and frankly, I don't think they should ever build a city on the sea, below sea level.
Bodies are buried above ground there, and as they decompose and fall throught the grate, other family members can be added. When the waters rise, the dead are disturbed.
What they don't need is rain. They can't pump the rain out. It would only make things worse.
OK, I take it back. This IS like an irwin Allen movie.
Yes, absolutely.
The reality is that the mold problems alone will condemn that city if they follow EPA guildlines. Now it sounds like a toxic waste dump to top that.
We are all safe.
LSU has suspended classes until after Labor Day. The U is the staging area for military and other ER vehicles going to NO. There are 500 special needs patients at the field house and more expected. Considering opening the Marevich center to hospital evacuees.
I think LSU canceled its first game against some podunk college, no offense intended.
The Poseiden Adventure
Fine you can stand in a mile long line if you care to. Me I want to be as far away from the crowd as possible.
I've got an 18-footer. Where does on volunteer?
No.
