Several people have requested a thread JUST for images of the storm.
Post them here, please.
You and your parents are in my thoughts and prayers.
Lynell Batiste, left, Kewana Batiste carries Timmy, and Adelaine Perkins carries Princess. The girls had evacuated out of their home earlier to the fire station in Lacombe, La. but decided to go back and get their pets on Monday, August 29, 2005 in Baton Rouge, La. I will pray for them throughout the day till I hear you've heard. I'll especially include them as well as that man on CNN with his son and grandson whose wife was torn from his hands by the force of the wind. So heartbreaking but if they live in that neighbourhood, it doesn't look too bad now. I guess it depends on how high it was yesterday at it's peak. Some areas are almost bone dry while a block away a house is up to it's roof. I will pray for everyone there...the victims and the rescuers. I'm trying to get people up here to send help to take care of pets etc. More later.
The dolphins were move AGAIN to a salt water pool that was created out of a motel pool. They're okay.
Don't worry too much. The original caption for that house identified it as one that was still being rebuilt after Hurricane Dennis (I think Dennis) from last year. That is not new damage. Winds there weren't that strong - but I'm sure phone lines are down.
This is one reason why so many people decide to stay through hurricanes. I am guilty of this myself.
My family consists of 2 dogs and 5 cats, animals I will not leave behind. Few shelters allow people to bring their animals. While I understand the reasoning behind "no pets allowed" I also fully understand people refusing to leave their animals. I would not leave mine behind, even for a cat-5.
Many people may think I'm crazy for putting the lives of my pets above my own life, but as I said at the beginning of this post, they are part of my family.
Oil rig pic you were talking about.
They wouldn't have otherwise???
I wouldn't leave my furbabies either. They're coming with me or I''m not going.
They are the ones most likely to have power/phone lines (though that is not guaranteed). Find the number here:
I called them after a different hurricane, and they were at least able to tell me the status of the neighborhood.
Can you hear me now?
Me three. I couldn't leave my girls behind.
Be careful what you post; other sites monitor FR and they're not necessarily liberal ones:

Panama City did not get hit very hard at all. The picture you posted was actually from a Grand Lagoon neighborhood in Pensacola. I am very near Grand Lagoon in Panama City right now - we are fine here.
Hope this helps!
Wow! That is almost evil, isn't it? I don't belong to that forum and don't want to register but if someone does tell him/her for me to keep their money, Democrat or not. Even if I was a Democrat I wouldn't want this mean-spirited individual's help. He needs it more than I do.
Amen.
