Rev. Al Sharpton's driver arrested near Dallas

11:25 AM CDT on Monday, August 29, 2005

Associated Press

WAXAHACHIE - The Reverend Al Sharpton's driver is free on bail after sheriff's deputies say he was arrested for driving 110 miles per hour on an Ellis County highway near Waxahachie.

Jarrett Barton Maupin, 43, of Phoenix was freed on $1,000 bail after Sunday's arrest.

An Ellis County sheriff's spokesman said a deputy spotted a car containing Maupin and Sharpton speeding north yesterday afternoon on Interstate 35E, about 40 miles south of Dallas.

State troopers headed off and stopped the car just west of Waxahachie. Maupin told the troopers he was hurrying to get the New York civil rights activist and two other passengers to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

Williams said the car was impounded at the rental agency's request, and Sharpton and the two other passengers were offered a ride to a nearby hotel. They declined and said they'd walk, although there is no word on where they went.

Sharpton had been in Crawford earlier in the day to visit with Cindy Sheehan, who has been leading an anti-war vigil near President Bush's Central Texas ranch.

Saw it reported that Al got a ride with a passerby...wouldn't it be interesting to get the driver's account of 'the rest of the story'?!

I have seen several of your montages in the last couple of days.

I may be mistaken, but I believe this one is different because of the Iraqi woman with the purple finger.

That says it all. A perfect response for Mother Sheehan.

A couple months ago I had a short debate with family members who live in Germany. When I mentioned the Iraqi women holding up their purple fingers after voting in January's elections, they feigned ignorance - they had never seen such photos.

We are dealing with children.

Sharpton Driver Arrested for Speeding
Aug 29 5:46 PM US/Eastern

WAXAHACHIE, Texas

A car carrying the Rev. Al Sharpton led sheriff's deputies on a nine- mile chase at speeds up to 110 mph before state troopers stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver, authorities said.

The civil rights activist called the sheriff's report "ludicrous" and accused the Ellis County officers of "embellishing the story."

"That nine-mile chase is news to me," Sharpton told The Associated Press. "All I know is that the police pulled us over because they wanted to talk to the driver about speeding."

Chief Deputy Charles Sullins said driver Jarrett B. Maupin, 43, was rushing Sharpton to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport after Sharpton visited anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan on Sunday at her camp outside President Bush's ranch in Crawford.

Because the 2005 Lincoln was rented to Maupin, of Phoenix, sheriff's deputies impounded the car. Maupin posted a $1,000 bond on charges of evading arrest with a vehicle and reckless driving, authorities said.

The car carrying Sharpton and two other passengers was clocked doing 110 mph in a 65 mph zone on the interstate south of Dallas, Sullins said.

He said the driver ignored deputies' attempts to stop it and weaved in and out of traffic before state troopers were able to get in front of the car.

Sharpton caught a lift from a passing driver and made his scheduled flight to New York.

I would have loved to see Reverand Al Hitch Hicking

You just don't run from Texas Highway Patrol.

We call them Dept. of Public Safety troopers here in Texas.

and the funny thing is, Mother Sheehan must have been on her knees for that shot - there was a pic here yesterday, and he's a good 6 inches shorter than he is.

Unlike Okra Winfrey, Rev. Al is probably not from Watusi stock...

these liberal politicians only live by a simple creed;

and that is they see themselves as better than others (they are the RULING CLASS after all) and the masses are PEONS & SERFS there only to serve as as source of TAX REVENUE and whatever else they see fit.

I find it so annoying when people think they are above the law...

Not to mention I find Al Sharpton absolutely nauseating! I saw him talking about going out there (before he left) and you would think he was going to see Mother Theresa!
