State Senator from La, saying Bernard Parish is 25 ft underwater.

What does that mean...is a Parish and entire town, county or what? Thanks! (Do you have population numbers for this Parish?)

St. Bernard is the parish immediately down river from Orleans Parish. There is at least one refinery there.

St. Bernard is a parish/county located due east of the city of New Orleans.

When looking at a map of extreme southeastern Louisiana, you see two "fingers" of land that are technically peninsulas: one extending southeast, one due east.

The southeast "finger" is Plaquemines parish and is the path currently taken by the Mississippi to the Gulf; the eastern "finger", St. Bernard, is how the river used to run to the Gulf many, many moons ago.

The largest town in St. Bernard is Chalmette, my home town. Areas to the east of it are more sparsely populated, with a good portion of the parish very low-lying and, at the eastermost points, downright marshy.

Hope this helps.

"Parishes" are what Louisianaians call their counties.
