Hell, it could for all I know. I guess there has to be a first time for everything, even for Joe Bastardi to make a good call.
I'm looking at the NO radar loop now - it looks to me that it would go just west of the city on it's present track, but it'll doubtless wobble on it's way in. The last loop I looked at, it looked like it was going even further west. No matter what, New orleans is in for a huge hit. There just isn't much room for it to make a really radical turn any more.
Heard on CMSNBC that the NO pumps can handle ONE INCH an HOUR..So if you have , say, 20 feet of flooding in the city..that's 10 days to pump it out..
"TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS ARE CURRENTLY MOVING INTO THE COASTAL MARSHES AND WILL PERSIST FOR THE NEXT 26 TO 28 HOURS"
WOW!
Not from the ME it doesn't...
at least that is what is being reported....
"He better be careful. Administrator was banning freepers today for making biblical comments."
Okay many people with families are going to die tonight. Is that better? The TV generation appears to think this is a gameshow (Real TV)... this is different, this is real.
Lurker
The Administrator doesn't ban people for those kinds of comment..
Well if they were charging $50.00 ahead to get in and only staying for 2 hrs it would be a different story!
Kill A Commie For Mommie
Seven Dead Monkeys Page O Tunes
Thank God. I would guess they are going to need alot of sedatives. God bless the medical folks who stayed to help.
No weapons, no drugs,No alcohol, No smoking!!!
Feel free to hypothesize how wind, even with debris, brings down a giant steel dome, encased in concrete. Save your fears for the rational world.I'll take a stab it it; you left out this part below - so I'm going to propose a wind and tide surge event:
The Superdome is built to withstand most catastrophes; the roof is estimated to be able to withstand up to 120 MPH wind, but flood waters could still possibly reach reach the second level 20 feet from the ground which makes this structure an unreliable shelter in severe rain and wind.
"the entire credibility of the national weather service and national hurricane center is on the line with this one. don't get me wrong, I am not saying its being "over hyped", I am just making an observation."
I disagree. It was just two days ago that this storm was at 100 mph and precicted to turn north towards the Fla. Gulf Coast. The New Orleans scenario was first predicted yesterday at NOAA's 11am update.
It took the City of New Orleans until this morning to issue official evacauation orders. There was nearly 22 hours difference between the time the evac orders were issued and the Noaa's 11.00am update yesterday.
It's a Galveston 1900 storm all over again.
"The idiot mayor of NO is a DemocRat, isn't he ?"
Don't know, but he sounds like one.
But you have time to ride around on that high horse?
Everyone here understands this is a dangerous night. Geraldo trying to pump the drama up like it's a suspense novel is still comedy.
why isn't wanding them sufficient?
Thanks.
With a pressure as low as 902, this is going to hit hard.
Oh dear. Sad. All we can do is hope for the best.
In the 4 PM WDSU broadcast they said they are confiscating lighters and cigarettes. If that is the case, it is gonna be REAL ugly inside the dome come tomorrow, hurricane hit or not.
They are fools to mess so much with people.
