Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

Shep was just saying that they were telling them to be prepared in case of fires, carry a fire extinguisher, etc.

And I didn't understand why fires would be a hazard, but lots of folks have answered that question for me.

In the 4 PM WDSU broadcast they said they are confiscating lighters and cigarettes. If that is the case, it is gonna be REAL ugly inside the dome come tomorrow, hurricane hit or not.

Feel free to hypothesize how wind, even with debris, brings down a giant steel dome, encased in concrete. Save your fears for the rational world.

There are too many people here who seem to want the dome to turn into a Irwin Allen disater movie. It won't.

In a 2-hour special based on Erik Larson's book Isaac's Storm, weather experts, historians, and survivors' descendents guide us through that horrific day that claimed over 6,000.

Never one to defend Geraldo - I believe he was reading from a weather bulletin which was posted on this thread before he came on. Of course he had to play it in high drama as if the words themselves weren't bad enough.
