Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.
Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

God the ways in which I detest Chris Matthews are countless.
BUT! All is not LOST!! (Sorry, I can't help it- possible hysteria outbreak) GERALDO IS ON!!!!!!! THIS IS THE BIG ONE! Of BIBLICAL PROPORTION!! LISTEN to him! Talk about DRAMA...
Good grief the guy should write drama novels... - not news.
I get a little nervous when I hear that a gulf oil platform registered winds of 215 mph before the instrumentation failed, then read that the Superdome was designed for 200mph winds.
I hope that figure doesn't include the safety margin.
And it was the president, I firmly believe, who finally convinced that idiot Mayor to issue a mandatory evacuation.
Geraldo IS quite the sensationalist, isn't he?
Very true :-)
New Orleans CBS station headed off local coverage at midnight.
One local NO TV station is now going to shut down, and the station will be replaced by the Baton Rouge station.
I don't think it has anything about being morbid, or even complaining, how about it's just interesting, and obviously a topic of converstaion in light of what's occurring. I've seen much nicer comments from people standing in line at the dome, then some of the snarls on this list tonight....
Wikipedia says the Superdome is safe up to 120 MPH. No one knows after that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louisiana_Superdome
ROTFLOL!!!!!
I think that guy just might have been 7 feet tall. Or very close.
Geeeeez....did you hear his opening....
I remember when Hugo was on it's way - Savannah was going to sustain a direct hit - we were evacuated and crawled down I95 for hours. After awhile they closed down the inbound lane and people were crossing over the median to the other side. Thankfully Hugo turned north at the last minute and spared us but hit Charleston :(. Had Hugo hit us, we'd have been under the water too, seeing as how we're only 7 miles from the beach. Watching all this scares me for what could happen when it's our turn ....

The pressure is everything. The pressure difference drives the hurricane winds, nothing else, the lower the internal Millibars of pressure, the faster the winds can get. The (relatively negative) pressure is the driving force behind the hurricane engine - the greater the pressure difference the greater the windspeed can attain.
So, if the windspeed drops a bit, it is only temporary. The eyewall will be the destination target for all the air surrounding the eye, as the air tries to fill the relative void in the eye created by condensation high up in the atmosphere. The hurricane spins due to the corriolis
effect, which is NOT what happens in your toilet.
A hurricane is a great big continuous simple-cycle heat engine, using heat from the ocean, rapid ocean evaporation, even more rapid condensation (which cause both the heavy rains and low pressures), and being fed more warm, humid air from the winds circulating in continuously. It is an efficent way to disperse heat through the planet and then out into space.
Why don't you just go on back to DU and join them in hoping for the worst possible damage and death toll. Just once, it would be nice if you leftist asshats would show some humanity in the face of a disaster, instead of rubbing your hands together in glee at the prospect of beating up George Bush with it.
Don't these guys know they can't have their Kates and Ediths too?
Miss America, huh? I think there are prettier ones than her on just that channel. OH, well, she is pretty good at her job, though.
Bastardi still saying the eye will go in just east of NO.
