If you or your family is in the path of Hurricane Katrina, if you would like to, please "sign in" here so that we can keep track of our people as this storm progresses, especially after the storm has passed.
i live in Picayune but i am on vacation in California. My son, his wife, and my future grandbaby have hunkered down in Picayune. i have not heard from anybody there since about 8 am this morning. at the time i was last in contact with my son, two trees fell on his home during our conversation. if anybody has any info on that area, please post it as soon as possible. thank you.
Dolly I'm worried about Toby.
I've added your son to the map. My previous post will be automagically updated with that new map. Keep us posted.
thank you very much
I normally reside elsewhere, but from Wednesday on I will be in Western MD. If I get washed away and not get bashed on a rock, I will send you a post-action (hopefully not post-mortem) report.
"betsyross" checking in. We live in Metairie, LA but have evacuated to Houston area. Left at 9:30 am Sunday and arrived in Conroe at 6:00 am Monday. (normally a 6 hour drive) I haven't seen very much in the way of reports on the Metaire suburb of New Orleans. The whole family is safe and just waiting to find out what we have to go home to. God Bless all freepers. Stay safe
Cell phone and landlines are FOR THE MOST PART not working. That said, I HAVE received some calls from within the effected area. As a result, I know that lack of phone contact does not necessarily mean destruction. I have not heard any reports from that area, so that may be a positive indication. At any rate, your family is firmy in my prayers.
Betsyross, I hate to bear bad news, and it is SECOND HAND, but... there was an earlier post on the live Katrina thread VIII that Metairie had some pretty bad flooding in parts of it. I just found it:
"To: All
I've been watching video from WGNO's streaming feed.
I saw a place by the cemeteries - a railroad overpass that was totally filled with water...must have been 17 ft deep...that means people on Metairie road are flooded bad.
The water at Veteran's Highway and I-10 is about 3 feet below the suspended traffic lights.
Oh my God. And that was filmed three or four hours ago.
I used to live near both of those places. There's a busstop by Oddfellow's rest which must have four or five feet of water there at least.
My friend Christine's house is flooded. Lord, I hope she got out of town in time.

We tried to call my Father-in-Law in Lutcher, but no cell or land line is getting through. We have a relative with a home in Metairie too, that's why I have been watching this.
May God give you strength and peace through this time and always.
Ted
Extra prayer for both of you and your families.
placemark. Continuing to send prayers for those in the path: and our FReepers we are waiting to hear from!
You've got Freepmail.
Mrs. LTCJ has family in Denham Springs near Baton Rouge. It's strangely comforting to see there are "friendlies" in the area although I'd wish them all out of there if I could.
God be with them all over the next hours and days.
When I tried calling him about an hour ago I got his voice mail.............told him to check in when he can. Nothing yet.
I think Toby will be fine & is prolly helping others at this point. His chickens (who were on their own).. well, another story
He's okay hon. hard to keep those "mom genes & stuff" from kicking in, I know.
((((Hugs))))
No problems here (just southwest of Montgomery). Some wind and rain, not bad. Still have power. It must be the generator we bought before Dennis- Lol. We kept power then too.
Praying for the both of you in MS! I understand gulfcoast6 is in one of the affected areas. Praying he's OK!
WOW! That's a really cool image Spiff!
