Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico. Mandatory evacuation of New Orleans is finally underway. Louisiana officials are warning of complete failure to levy systems, and pleading with people to leave low lying areas. For those who choose to stay, they are recommending picks and axes for breaking through to access their roofs during flooding.
Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be rushing hurricane preparations to completion.

The way those walls curve, I could see them catching the wind and just lifting the roof off.
It's gonna get hairy really quick down there.
Of course I predicted a Biloxi-Mobile landfall 6 hrs ago LOL, so I guess I am with Joe on this one.
Just East of NO would spare them the brunt of the devastating winds, But as the storm approaches the northern edge will push water up the missippi and also into Lake P, and NO will still become a huge Bathtub full of water.
snakes...fire ants...flooding...alligators...
I don't think this sounds like a vacation spot at all!
Anyone who's been through it before. You'll never forget it again :)
I can't even imagine what that wind is going to sound like from within the dome during the storm.
Is the dome on higher ground?
Yes, I know it has levels up high, but I'm asking is it located on higher ground? Realizing, of course, in NO, higher ground is relative.

This loop looks that way to me too!
Like it's jig-jogging to the west.
Oh wow, Babe
Prayers that she stays safe .. this is one scary storm
If I were in NO, I'd have been at least 200 miles north by now, regardless of what Bastardi is saying.
From Fox News...if pumps themselves get submerged underwater and fail...four months just to fix the pumps!
V2, not V3
detonating a low yield tactical nuk>>
Nope - would not make a dent.>>>
If anything it has the potential of strengthening the hurricane, not weakening it.
Does anybody know what wind speed the dome can withstand? I hope one of those high rises doesn't fall on it.
This would be a very bad time for a terror strike of any kind. Especially in the fully packed superdome. I wonder how they are screening those trying to enter with suitcases of stuff?
That's a great idea for everyday. We have 3 vehicles, and Mr.FF is compulsive about keeping the gas tanks as close to full as possible at all times. Especially in winter! When the gauge gets down to 1/2 tank he heads to fill it. If my car gets to 1/4 tank I hear about it!
Unless it turns north, it looks from the radar loop
that it will pass west of NO. just my guess.
I already did, boss. But, really, there will be trolls, and the poster did not respond to a request for linkage.
I'm outta here for the afternoon. Singing some shape note nown Greene County. Prayers will be up.
