Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico. Mandatory evacuation of New Orleans is finally underway. Louisiana officials are warning of complete failure to levy systems, and pleading with people to leave low lying areas. For those who choose to stay, they are recommending picks and axes for breaking through to access their roofs during flooding.
Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be rushing hurricane preparations to completion.

I'm seeing what you're saying and it is disgusting.
Just save saying anymore.
Wow, thanks for the info. Is there any Java applets for these radars that can be refreshed?
We're praying for you.
Whoever gave the nickname "The Big Easy" to New Orleans really knew what he was talking about.
The people down there are so laid-back and, well, VERY lazy that they just refuse to protect themselves from disaster.
It is actually a holdover from the French influence.
You can see the rain bands off shore ... tempers may start to flare. Sad.
More likely they consulted with their political advisers to ask if they would lose votes in the next election if it turned out to be something of a false alarm.
Geez .. they are not gonna get those folks in the Dome in time with searching all those bags
He knows, he knows.
Good grief, they are doing "extensive searches" for drugs and weapons on people trying to get into the Superdome. They're going to have people left out in this killer storm because somebody might smuggle in a crack pipe!
Endless blathering, supposition, innuendo and sensationalism. I believe that about covers the duties of most reporters.
gas has already started to go up here.
tomorrow it may shoot up 10 cents or more due to Katrina.
< ...to say nothing about how stupid it is for him to drive down into this especially when there are Fox reports already there. >
I'd think he was just accepting an assignment. I guess we should just agree to disagree. I'm a Shep fan...you are not.
As someone who was in Pt. Pleasant WV when the Silver Bridge fell, I know all about having a mic shoved in your face and being asked an inane question. In this case, the "idiot" who cursed had no reason to do that. He was laughing. It was low class.
Yep, shipping rates, due to increased demand for rail will definately spike prices on goods, if barge traffic on the Mississippi is affected.
Cool story.
It also illustrates the frightening fact that in a storm like this nobody can predict what will happen or where.
'cuz if I know Geraldo, he's trying to charter a boat...
Maybe that yellow rainslicker suit isn't back from the cleaners yet.
Leni
Ouch. Everything's now agreeing on New Orleans; it's just a matter of which side of town gets the center of the eye.
I had the exact same thoughts, especially about the Dome. I'm really worried about it.
If some here find that "low-class" -- well then so be it.
And I thought it was still bearing WNW....
