Hurricane Katrina, Live Thread, Part V
NHC - NOAA ^ | 28 August 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 08/28/2005 9:35:34 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico. Mandatory evacuation of New Orleans is finally underway. Louisiana officials are warning of complete failure to levy systems, and pleading with people to leave low lying areas. For those who choose to stay, they are recommending picks and axes for breaking through to access their roofs during flooding.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be rushing hurricane preparations to completion.

I understood you perfectly. My response was why you wanted to buy the guy who cursed a drink. I'm still asking and now I'd like to know why you wish you could say that to Shep? Sounds pretty low class, to me.

Per WWL--

From Plaquemines Parish President: catching rain; pumps will be manned until no longer safe; EMS services about to be shut down; curfew at 6:00 P.M.; over 70-maybe 80% of people gone: "What about remaining 20%? They will be part of search and rescue tomorrow. Very sobering words."

Frustrating that 20% are riding this out over a mandatory evac called yesterday at 9:00 A.M. "All we can do is pray for those who chose to stay."

What's that highway that WVUE's been showing (via Fox) for the past hour? What's the location? I want to consult my Rand-McNally.

Stay safe down there. You're in my prayers.

The National Weather Service in Mobile has issued a

* Tornado Warning for...

George County in southeast Mississippi
Mobile County in southwest Alabama

* until 430 PM CDT

* at 348 PM CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a
severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near Kushla...
and moving west at 25 mph.

* The tornado producing storm is expected to be near...
Semmes and Lott and Coleman Dairy roads by 400 PM CDT
snow and Tanner Williams roads by 405 PM CDT
Big Creek Lake by 410 PM CDT
Tanner Williams and Big Creek Lake dam by 415 PM CDT

If you are in the path of this dangerous storm... abandon vehicles and
Mobile homes and seek a reinforced shelter. Move to the lowest floor
interior hallway or closet. Cover your body with blankets or pillows.

If no shelter is available... lie flat in the nearest ditch or low
spot and cover your head with your hands.

The safest place to be during a tornado is in a basement. Get under a
workbench or other piece of sturdy furniture. If no basement is
available... seek shelter on the lowest floor of the building in an
interior hallway or room such as a closet. Use blankets or pillows to
cover your body and always stay away from windows.

If in Mobile homes or vehicles... evacuate them and get inside a
substantial shelter. If no shelter is available... lie flat in the
nearest ditch or other low spot and cover your head with your hands.
