Hurricane Katrina continues to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico. Currently, the forecast models are converging upon New Orleans. However, all interests in the northern Gulf of Mexico should follow the path of this storm, and be prepared for a major hurricane landfall. Throughout Friday, the official track forecasts moved west, as Hurricane Katrina delayed making the anticipated northwest turn.

absurd, that is. Wish I could edit comments here....
Be Seeing You,
Chris
There's no specified schedule for Eyewall Replacements but it could be setting up to be replacing an Eyewall right at landfall.
Wow. You got me thinking of all my favorite places down there, Jackson Square, Pat O's and that wonderful little place that makes the beignets and great coffee. They are all in the most vulnerable area right along the river at its highest point.
Just curious - where do they evacuate all those hospitalized folks TO?
If you have something worthwhile to post here--please contribute. Otherwise, the cliche garbage is immature, useless, and clutters up way too many threads.
And Andrew was only a Cat 3 storm (probably only Cat 2 when I got the worst of it).
Those reporters will likely all be fine. They are going to set up in buildings that have floors higher than the worst case flood/surge. Just will be miserable, though there is always the risk of a blown roof, flying debris, tornadoes.

where to check it out?
Thank you for checking in! Glad to know you are safe. Take care.
Is Katrina getting bigger?! We're still getting rain bands all the way to here in Sarasota. She's massive.
that wonderful little place that makes the beignets and great coffee...
Cafe DuMonde, yummm
Yeah...he's got his hands full...they've got a great team...but it's a monumental job..he will keep me updated...and I'll pass it on here.
Just heard it's 385 miles southeast of Miss River...
Cafe Du Monde
Well, depending on how poor they are, Did, they may not have a car.
I also worry about any elderly who may be too frightened or physically unable to evac. I hope NO has made provisions for those folks.
I've experienced a few. It's highly overrated...:-)
I remember talking to a good friend of mine after Andrew ... a Texas native (He got almost the direct hit in Terrebonne Parish and I was living in California at the time). Naturally, he tried to make it sound like it was nothing. His wife got on the extension and told him to quit lying because he had been "scared to death." LOL!
Excellent question! I will ask him when I next hear from him..
Thank you for the info.
That is a plus at this point. From the POV of evacuation plans.
I was only curious as my husband and I were both noting the horrendous bumbper to bumper north bound traffic on our way home from shopping this afternoon. The weather is rotten here this weekend so I just assumed it was normal get home early tourists coming up from the Outer Banks (most plates were from NJ, PA, NY, MD, and places north)..but hybby opined folks concerned about the Katrina.
New Jersey here.
All of you in the threatened region are in our prayers. Please be safe and I sincerely hope that we can look back on this later and say it was much ado about nothing.
Thanks! I couldn't remember the name. It's been a while.
