(CNN) -- Conservative religious broadcaster Pat Robertson apologized Wednesday for calling for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez during Monday's broadcast of his "700 Club" program.

"Is it right to call for assassination? No, and I apologize for that statement," he said in a written statement.

Seems that Christians spend a good bit of time telling others how to behave. What I get a kick out of is when one group of Christians think another group of Christians are wrong - at lunch we were discussing how a couple of Mormons had knocked on a coworkers door and she chatted with them, obviously by the discussion they could tell she was a believer in the Lord; when she told them she was Catholic they backed up like she had the plague.

" Kennedys were justified in authorizing the attempts on Castro's life "

No context of this in any of the MSM coverage. Funny how the Lib MSM forgot about this information in their zest to embarass an Evangelical Christian.

He said it, but when I hear the fuller quote it sounds like Pat was reporting on a wild Chavez claim that we are planning to assasinate him. Pat then went on to say something like "So if he thinks someone is trying to assasinate him, we should just do it...." He said it but it was sort of a sarcastic response to Chavez's claim.

it always intrigues me when people who seem to know little about christianity begin telling christians how they should or shouldn't behave

Whatever do you mean?

Funny, when you look up Cristian Broadcasting Network, Robertson is all over it!!!!

And I believe TBN is Trinity Broadcasting Network, which is these fine people.

It always intrigues me when people try to start a fight over nothing. Oh, and when they try to sound like an authority on Christianity, and don't even capitalize it.

>>>>Tyrannicide has been sanctioned as morally compatible with the teachings of the Catholic Church, based on the social doctrine of St. Thomas Aquinas.

Good points, good post. Listened to a good discussion on tyrannicide last evening on local radio.

As with any conservative, no matter how many ways or how many times he apologizes, it won't be good enough.

You are certainly welcome to your opinion. As I said, it simply validates Christ's words. I have not donated a dime.
I can certainly tell, with your obvious hatred, you haven't either.

Exactly. The barrage of negative coverage from the MSM over Robertson's remarks would have been regarded as over the top even by Pravda and Izvestia. They even dragged out geriatric liberal "Protestant" seminary professors who have been viewed by the MSM (and rightly so) as irrelevant for many years to sound off about Robertson being "un-Christian".

"Evidently the context is Chavez gave $1 million to Al Queda."

I had not heard this, do you have a link?

It is a "You Can't Say That" statement. It isn't a stupid statement, because it's true, but it's a stupid thing to say unless you're ready to face down the pack of baying hounds.

Michael Savage analyzed the statement and decided it was a reasonable and proper thing to say. Sort of like the old question about if one could have put a bullet in Hitler's head in 1933 before he developed into the monster he became would it have been right? Of course it would have. And this little parrot-head down there in Vene. is looking very, very dangerous. He needs to be taken out.

I really wish people that make gutsy statements like Robertson did would not back down from them. Hurts the cause. The weasal Lott was the same way. Should have said "Screw You" like Delay does... you can't apologize, it's like appeasement, they just want more once they taste blood.

Evidently the context is Chavez gave $1 million to Al Queda. Is it still a stupid statement?

I wasn't aware of that part of the story and if that is the context of the remark then I'd say no, it wasn't as stupid statement. And I'd support Pat's original position!

But all that aside, my point wasn't that I thought it was really a stupid statement, I just think it's ridiculous for us to be here on FreeRepublic doing the leftists dirty work for them by tearing down Pat Robertson.
