FEDS VOW TO GET TOUGH ON ILLEGALS Tue Aug 23 2005 17:15:30 ET
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, acknowledging public frustration over illegal immigration, said Tuesday that the federal government's detention and deportation system must be fundamentally restructured.
"We have decided to stand back and take a look at how we address the problem and solve it once and for all," Chertoff said during a breakfast meeting with reporters.
The NEW YORK TIMES is planning a front page placement for the Chertoff comments on Wednesday, newsroom sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.
The unusually blunt assessment by the nation's top immigration official comes after governors in New Mexico and Arizona recently declared a border-related "state of emergency," citing a surge in smuggling and violence associated with the steady flow of illegal immigrants.
Developing...
Sounds about as credible as "I have no more territorial demands in Europe."
How do I doubt this?
Let me count the ways . . . . . . . . . .
Standing back and assessing the situation is hardly anything new. The feds have been standing back and assessing the situation for decades, that's why we have an estimated 12 million illegals in this country. When you parse Chertoff's comments, all he is saying is that the Bush Administration will continue to carry Vicente Fox's water for him and continue to do nothing about illegal immigration.
If not a fence, maybe guarded, armed towers at half mile intervals, with accompanying catapults for re-patriation...
The house is on fire, and the firemen are standing around drinking slurpy's....
Come on.
How do I doubt this?

I hope y'all don't mind if I don't hold my breath on this one.
Amazing. I'll believe it when I see it.........but......
LOL........."aggravated apathy"........what a wonderful phrase.......:)
Let me see, how does it go?
1. I love you
2. This won't hurt a bit
3. The check is in the mail
4. I was just going to call you
5. Of course I'll respect you in the morning
6. I'm from the government, and I'm here to help you
7. We're *really* going to stop illegals this time
(yeah, I know I left one out, don't want my post pulled, after all)
Nothing new here. Move along.
This means that we need to redouble our efforts. Because these comments mean they are getting concerned about the fallout & want to placate us until we forget, then go back to business as usual.
They know that the average voter has a short attention span. They hope something else will come along and distract us.
Just more bullfeathers, issued by the GOP Hispandering Big Tent, in another attempt to placate the enraged conservative base.
I think a lot of us know that feeling.
No, we're in agreement, as the operative phrase here is "on this issue".
My original response was to a post which appeared to be accusation of being in support of the anti-American bash-Bush crowd, if a direct accusation, a subtle one- which I emphatically am not.
" The house is on fire, and the firemen are standing around drinking slurpy's...."
LMFAO
*Yawn*..*Stretch*

this makes it look even worse, now we're getting into "political season" so rather than doing the right thing at the right time, they're using this as an issue at a political time. while our national security is at stake these IDIOTS ARE USING THIS AS A POLITICAL ISSUE!!!
whether anything will be done remains to be seen but i wont hold my breath
