'Christian' Pat Robertson calls for the assassination of Venezuela's President Chavez

hristian Broadcasting Network's The 700 Club host Pat Robertson ... founder of the Christian Coalition of America has called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias.

In a direct transcript of his August 22 The 700 Club broadcast Robertson clearly says:

There was a popular coup that overthrew him [Chavez]. And what did the United States State Department do about it? Virtually nothing. And as a result, within about 48 hours that coup was broken; Chavez was back in power, but we had a chance to move in. He has destroyed the Venezuelan economy, and he's going to make that a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism all over the continent.

You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it.

It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... and I don't think any oil shipments will stop. But this man is a terrific danger and the United ... this is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen.

We have the Monroe Doctrine, we have other doctrines that we have announced. And without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us very badly.

We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability.

We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.

I will look for that..

I try to look at the Bible as God was saying all of it to me..Old and New
God has many faces

1. He is the God that walked in the garden with Adam and asked him "Where are you?" and then stated "Who told you that you were naked? he of course knew but wanted to hear it from Adam.
2. He is the God that sent an angel to kill 185,000 Assyrians in their sleep for King Hezekiah
3. He is the God that came down as a man...into a sinful world ...when he was blameless
4. He is the God that healed as he walked
5. He is the God that whipped the gamblers when they were doing this in the house of worship
6. He is the God that told John how the end will come all those that don't believe in his name will perish

I of course could go on and on but my point is..if your going to talk God...you better be ready to talk about all of him and not what you like out of the Bible

He does claim to speak for God at times.

"Every comment henceforth is just filler"

Inasmuch as I can ascertain, it is my opinion that I can safely say that the subject of the predicate is not a verb. Furthermore, with that said and notwithstanding, it is with great vengeance and furious anger that I hold you in contempt of reconciliation. Lo, it tis a gala' night, in the lonesome later years... And, lastly, I pronounce you man and wife.

Don't really care for Pat Robertson, but I am happy to hear this said on TV. We need a dialogue on what to do about Chavez.

So much for Christianity being a religion of peace.

Pat, Pat, Pat ... that's the deep end.
You belong over here, in the shallow end, where you can't hurt yourself.

I dunno how much damage that does. Only to those who believe Christians ought never to condone violence in any cause.

Chavez is a would-be totalitarian that has not consolidated enough power yet to grossly mistreat his own people or conduct foreign adventures -- but he will in time. It took Mugabe over 20 years before his true tendencies became realized. Chavez needs to vanish, but a "Christian leader" calling for it will confuse some people. But now that the subject has been broached, let's get on with it.

I think I'll say a prayer and ask God, if it is his will, to smite Chavez with a bolt of lightening.

God sent Joshua to war.

BTW I named one of my sons after him.

Hitler hated the Catholic Church, deliberately took acts that he knew excommunicated him from the Catholic Church, joined a political movement opposed to the Catholic Church, went out of his way as a politician to humiliate representatives of the Catholic Church and, as a dictator had hundreds of Catholic priests executed.

**************

Yet ironically, he is used by anti-Catholics to criticize the Church.

Doesn't damage me with Christ one iota. As a state policy, do you know what God told the state of Israel to do to the king of AI? Assassinate him. Do you know what Jesus said about that? Check John 1:1, then look at John 1:16.

He said, "Yes, and amen."

You seem to forget the yes/no question you asked to start this discussion. Let me remind you what it was, it came from your post #12 "Btw, would it have been wrong for the Pope to have called for the execution of Adolf Hitler in 1940?". Perhaps now you recall asking that pesky (and incredibly speculative) yes/no question?

When that question was answered in post #21, you dismissed it as "sheer conjecture" in post #36. Any of this ringing a bell for you? Our discussion began with my post #261.

It's really quite easy to follow a conversation amidst all the other stuff going on in a thread by clicking the [to post number] link (to go backwards) or the view replies link to go forward. You should perhaps try it sometime.

Going the "balloons and lollipop" route only makes you appear silly.

I think Robertson wanted to draw attention to Chavez and it's worked.

Chavez is a cancer out of control. Chavez poses a danger to all of South America and Latin America. Chavez must be eliminated any way possible. Sooner the better.
