From friends at ABC; Peter Jennings is near death. This is unconfirmed, but from usually reliable sources.
The ABC anchor, who was born in Canada but became a US citizen, announced a few months ago that he was suffering from lung cancer. He has not made a televised appearance since.

Thanks for sharing what you know about Laura's situation. I'm sad for her if her fiancee did cut and run. I guess the up side is finding out before the wedding if someone can really be there for you through all of life's ups and downs.
Thanks for sharing the info you picked up on Laura's fiance. I'm sorry to hear about it.
"I'll not throw any mud on PJ, but I won't become part of the lovefest either."
Good for you. The last thing God wants is a lovefest.
When there was Big news, Peter Jennings was the only one of the Three that I ever watched.
Unaccountably I feel sad about this.
I personally couldn't stand his politics or arrogant manner- but I guess his leaving is truly the end of the era of news coverage by the foremerly respectable Big 3...
Prayers for him and his family...
I'm so sorry about Ralph. Prayers for God's comfort to embrace you and your family.
It's mostly professional courtesy; he is a colleague, after all. But there's also the simple fact that there's just not much to report. Everyone knew this was coming, there's really no hope of improvement barring the sort of miracle you'd want to report to the Vatican afterwards, and the last few days of a terminal cancer patient's life just aren't particularly interesting in a "newsworthiness" sort of way. It's sad, but not anything you don't expect. (If, by comparison, Brian Williams were to get hit by a bus tomorrow, you'd have 24/7 wall-to-wall coverage of that, because that would be totally unexpected, coming out of nowhere.)
So everyone's just going to keep quiet for the most part until the inevitable comes. To any newsroom, they'd consider it a far better use of their time to work on an appropriate tribute to Jennings to air after the announcement of his death. And I can't say I disagree with them.
Amen. May it be so. <><
Prayers for Mr. Jennings and his family. Your prayers were beautiful, thanks for sharing.
Way too young to go, and Jennings until the illness didn't really show his age. He started smoking at 13, the damage was probably done long before he took up again after 9/11.
I have always liked Charlie. He seems like a genuinely good guy.
But (as has been mentioned earlier) it is truly the end of an era. The big three of my youth and teenaged years are no more.
In a way it is sad, as it reminds me of my own mortality. It seems as if it was just yesterday I was an 18 year old watching ABC thinking "Man, that Peter Jennings is cute!" I stop and think...My God! was that 33 years ago?
ABC tooled around more so than most until they got it right...but it was not meant to be. First Frank, then Max. Peter managed to make it his own.
Sorry to hear his treatment isn't going well.
Was it throat cancer and is he a smoker?
Thank you. Amen.
I've seen that before. I had a friend years ago in his early forties; he looked like the picture of health, but when he got the news he instantly went into a very sad tailspin. He was dead in six weeks.
All the best for Mr. Jennings and his family.
