From friends at ABC; Peter Jennings is near death. This is unconfirmed, but from usually reliable sources.

The ABC anchor, who was born in Canada but became a US citizen, announced a few months ago that he was suffering from lung cancer. He has not made a televised appearance since.

FF and Mr. FF...all of us care for a lot of people with whom we disagree on politics, whatever. I hope this thread will stay clean with our prayers and thoughts.

I only met the gentleman once and that was very many years ago when I was just planning on going into broadcast journalism. I have to say that of all the big names I met back them, he is the one that most impressed me.

Oh my...I had no idea he was in this bad of shape - not ever watching the network news...he was the last of the anchors that had been on since I can remember at the big three.

Small cell carcinoma also took my father in law's life, the disease killed him within 2 months, no treatment, no surgery, chemo or radiation can even slow the spread.

It broke my heart to watch this man's man beg for some kind of treatment, anything and watch him have to deal with the dr's reply that he had 3-6 months, if that long, and would he be amenable to hospice care starting right then.

His course of the disease was very fast moving and quickly debilitating, he was sent home on hospice care from that first hospital visit that dx'd him. There were no signs or symptoms of the disease prior to this and he did have routine yearly chest x-ray's.

He was a smoker and a tobacco farmer all his life. He asked his dr.early on after the diagnosis if smoking caused his lung cancer and the dr. said definitely.

I hope Mr.Jennings does not have this form of lung cancer and can be treated. Best wishes to him and his family. It's a hard thing to deal with, whether you're a star or a farmer.

Heavenly Father, we return to thank You for the outpouring of prayer for one who is suffering so. May it be, Merciful Father, that Mr. Jennings not depart this life until he is sealed by the Blood of the Lamb unto all eternity. Call him in the fullness of his days, O God ... may he peacefully slip into Your Presence. Comfort and encourage his family and friends during these hours ... bring to them Blessed Assurance from the Word of God, that they, too, might know eternal life through Jesus Christ. In His Name we pray, Amen ...

I am sorry to hear that. I always liked him, even though I doubt we would agree about anything. He seemed like a gentleman, real likable guy.

Prayers for Peter and his family. If it is not yet his time, may his recovery be swift. If it is his time, may his passing be peaceful.
