CNN ^

Posted on 08/04/2005 9:43:31 AM PDT by Alex Marko

JERUSALEM (AP) -- A passenger on an Israeli bus opened fire on Thursday, killing three people, an Israeli police spokesman told Channel 2 TV, in an apparent argument among passengers. Five other people were wounded. The TV report said the gunman, in an Israeli army uniform, was captured by police. The gunfire erupted as the bus was on a road in Israel's north near the town of Shfaram. The spokesman told Channel 2 that the gunman was a soldier, three people were killed and several others wounded, and the gunman was captured. Channel 2 said the incident was not a terror attack.

>>uh, do you deny that the Gaza Jews are refusing to leave? Do you deny that Ms. Rice wants the settlers to leave? Every time these settler idiots chose to cause a ruckus, they are directly, and indisputably embracing leftie values by trying to embarass our President.
Perhaps for you support of President Bush is contigent upon him embracing the agenda of thse settler idiots. Not me. For me "my honor is my loyalty".

Quite frankly, President Bush is not their president and as far as they're concerned, Bush's agenda is irrelevant. Or do you think that once we in the United States elect a president, citizens of every other country in the universe must toe his line? I don't think even Bush thinks that way.

"I believe that this is a difficult social problem for Israel, and that they should combine their study with work."

I very much support the hesder yeshivot, where the men learn part-time & serve in the army. These people to me are the future of Israel & Israeli defense.

As far as kollel . . . I very much support learning the first few years of marriage. I don't know what percentage in Israel actually commit themselves to longer. Of course, the charedi (ultra-Orthodox) communities emphasize learning over everything else, and these communities exist all over Israel, especially Jerusalem.

Certainly, we Jews need Torah scholars. Some people belong there. And they're hardly idle. (Or violent.) Maybe the problem, as Rodney King may have been trying to say, is that the kollel system is being exploited. There are men who use it to stay out of the army, or to get a meal ticket, or, to find a wife.

Kollel life isn't for everyone. Those who don't belong there, shouldn't be there.

An Israeli army deserter shot dead 4 people, injured 5, on a bus in the northern mixed town of Shfaram.

August 4, 2005, 8:20 PM (GMT+02:00)
"The gunman was Eden Tsuberi, 19, had been hiding for a year in Tapuach on the West Bank. A member of the fringe group Kahana Hai, he was killed in the incident. It is not clear if he died at the hands of an angry Druze lynch mob in Shfaram or on the bus. Three of the victims were Christian Arabs living in the town. Police are investigating the motive of the crime.

>>The assassin was not a lone psychotic gunman but, instead, was a young man nurtured within Israel’s far-
right religious institutions.

Nurtured by Avishai Raviv, an shin-bet agent provocateur, in a plot to discredit the right wing in Israel. A very effective plot, I may add.

Hate to interfere with your screed at the "settlers"

I made no screed at the settlers. If you will review the posts, I was responding to a post predicting that Israel would turn to civil war between factions, and I made my comments about the groups that don't work.

but the latest news describes him as a secular Jew from Israel who because of the disengagement deserted the IDF, "turned" Religious and was loitering in the "West Bank".

Thanks for the info.

Some one who obviously had psychological problems and not a product of the lazy "Right Wing" as you described (a particularly strange posting for "right wing" FreeRepublic).

I never said lazy right wing.

But if this guy can be considered a terrorist, you do know what that means: we have to look at the root causes of his grievance and humiliation.

LOL.

And just where does the "settler population" come from?

Israel, of course. Beyond that the largest group in Gaza is from India, followed by France.

He's a right wing settler now!

It's Watermelon Wave being served today. And I personally like Comedy Central and the late night Cartoon Network for TV.

If you don't want to calm down, that's fine. But you lose credibility by putting these shrill accusatory posts. I have no idea what appearance or deception you are talking about, I assure you. I was trying to help you when I sent that email, but if you want to snap your teeth at everyone that suggests you calm down, then that is your right.

If you want to explain how panicking or insultingly accusing people of this and that helps, I am all ears. I, at least, shall try to remain civil and reasonable, because I am interested in the conclusions of this discussion.

"His daughter, who is in her late teens, complained to him that because he has a job and is not studying in kollel, she will have a hard time finding an appropriate husband. This is just wrong."

Not only wrong but insane. What is an "appropriate husband" for her?

about the groups that don't work.

You would more likely find those groups in Jerusalem then as "settlers".

This is true, and in addition, Christian monastic life has always been seen as a contribution of these people to society (through their prayers, etc.), even when the monks in question were hermits.

However, I think Jews also believe this. The people who devote themselves to the study of the Scripture/Talmud are performing a service to the rest of the community.

However, in neither case were Christian monks or Talmudic scholars urging homicide/suicide attacks on the surrounding society. Only Islamic "scholars" seem to do that.

OK, I never said you wouldn't. While I understand the confusion as this is a thread about settlers, my original comment was to someone who was talking about another issue.

Ask any Arab- in Arabic- whether or not the residents of Tel Aviv are settlers.

Nevertheless, there are quite a few religious Israelis who do not work, but spend their time studying instead. I believe that this is a difficult social problem for Israel, and that they should combine their study with work.

So the Israeli government pays them to study all day?

Israel is suffering so much and all because of the incredible & appeasing pressure (much of it from Washington) to cave into the Islamic death cults.

Give Israelis the strength and wisdom required during this hour of intense problems.

Gigantic obstacles have been overcome in the past

If this happened anywhere else but Israel, the headline would have just read "Mentally unstable man kills three, wounds five others."

It is my opinion, that pulling out of Gaza, and the West Bank, will be a major Israeli tactical blunder. The Islamofascists will not stop, until every Jew is drowning in the Mediterranean.
