I'd say it's pretty clear her priorities were out of line if it was possible to FORGET HER CHILD. She should go to prison.

I don't understand. Did she never go to the daycare facility that morning? And went straight to work?

How in the world can this happen? Something just doesn't add up.

Both-parents-working-and-too-exhausted-to-be-fully-aware-BUMP.

I must have read at least a half dozen of these stories in the last two years. Parents don't know what's going on because they're scatter brained from chasing their tails as they both work and service the big bills.

Am more than a bit suspicious here. . .if this was accidental; I would think the Mother would have been desconsolate. . .perhaps on sedation pills - if not hospitalized. Shock can 'move' people, of course; but dabbing at eyes, albeit, 'swollen' with tears. . .not having made a statement. . .presence of mind to be there with lawyer. .and Mother still upright and walking. . .

I don't know. . .does not 'feel' right. . .

Easier to forget a child in the car it would seem. ..than forgetting the 'whole nine yards' of delivering him to his day care. . .'

Tragic.

Saw news of a situation in Pittsburgh -- parents left their child in their car while they went to a Pirates baseball game. Fortunately, the child survived...I don't have all the details, but I think someone saw the child, broke into the car and got him out. Presumably, it was a miscommunication between the parents (I guess one thought the other had taken the child to someone to watch???)

Anyway, this is happening all too frequently. Maybe it was a mistake...maybe it was too much stress...who knows? But we have also had a number of these incidents where people go do the hump-de-hump and leave a child in a hot car. Or they're out buying drugs, or doing drugs, or drinking in a bar. Those are the ones who ought to be shot.

This may also be yet another symptom of our tendency now to make our children's safety a low priority. And that scares me.

OK. I'll be the evil bad guy on this thread.

She forgot the kid in the car early in the day and went to the day care as a coverup. Rearview mirrors don't just show the vehicle behind you, it also has a handy dandy view of the the rear seat.

I hate thinking that, but there it is.

Lock her up. Her sob story doesn't hold water.

Leaving in a white T-shirt, black jogging shorts and tennis shoes, the mother dabbed at eyes swollen with tears before getting into a vehicle and leaving the station.

Let me get this straight. Does she dress like that for work? Does she not have a job? Did she work out after work? How do you NOT see a kid in the back seat from the rear view mirror. I'm sure she put the car in reverse at some point and had to look behind her...

"The mother returned to her vehicle to find Joseph dead in the back seat..."

This could be a case against airbags in vehicles. No airbag, the child might have been buckled into the seat beside Mom - no chance of being ignored or forgotten.

Having said that, I think airbags are dangerous and should be optional in vehicles. If you have never had airbags explode in your face, you might not be inclined to agree with me. Once airbags have exploded in your face, as they did one night when we hit a deer, you will never feel good about having that loaded 'shotgun' looking you in the face. The airbags exploded, filling the car with acrid, no doubt poisonous, white smoke. The drivers side bag drove me back in the seat, though there was no danger of any serious impact until the bag exploded and nearly caused loss of control. The passenger side bag hit my wife in the chest and injured her, leaving trauma and bruises that took a couple months to heal. I was able to control the vehicle but we could just as easily been out of control, off the road and into dense trees that were along the divided highway where we were travelling. Over half the cost of repairs to the vehicle were to replace airbags and repair damage their explosion caused.

Airbags are EVIL and DANGEROUS!

Could we all start peer into cars we pass as we walk from our parked cars to out destinations? MAYBE, just maybe, there could be a few more happy endings. This one just makes me want to cry.

The solution is simple really.

Place one of these on the front driver's side window ... facing in.

Good greif what is it with people How the hell do you forget your own flesh & blood in the back seat if your life is that hectic You need to do some serious re-evaluating what is going on before you kill your own kid.

I just hope the child was buckled properly into the child safety seat.
