I'm considering getting transfered from my job and moving to San Deigo or Los Angeles (where my company has offices.)
Any Freepers want to give a Jersey girl some advice?
I've never been to Ca. but I've had it with Jersey. I know there are at least five Conservatives in Califorina (thats three more than NJ)- help me out people!
In Boston there are expensive individual neighborhoods but in general the overall metro is less expensive than most places here in CA. I've done detailed comparisons. One thing I find is that the places in Boston with long standing name identification as being "places to be" are unthinkably expensive versus "newer" places without the status in the name. It's not that way out here. Any good neighborhood, new, old, known or unknown is very, very expensive. Any neighborhood above a slum is expensive unless you live in the boonies. And as for the rest - well, if you want to live like a gang banga film ... ;)
Malibu is a very nice place. The great thing about it is if you want LA stuff, you go east and - bingo - you're there in a flash with little traffic (PCH is not at heavily traveled as some other highways). You can get into Santa Monica and West LA on PCH and city streets. Go north - the Santa Monica Mountains. Go west and you're into Ventura, Carpinteria then Santa Barbara. The beaches are all south facing on that stretch of coast - the water actually gets almost tolerable in the summer. There is enough of a sea breeze and evening summer high fog to keep things comfortable. You bum!
Do they actually have offices in Los Angeles and San Diego?
I ask because a lot of people consider Los Angeles to be the generic Los Angeles area. IOW, you could be in Orange or Downey and theyd consider it Los Angeles (area), but it really isnt in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile its one big megalopolis that could easily be Los-Naranja.
Housing is high. You could get a nice condo/townhouse in Irvine in the high $300,000s.
If you want a detached (nice/safe) 3/2 bedroom/bath house youll be looking in the $600,000s or $700,000s. It goes up from there. You can spend WHATEVER you have.
Its the SOS though every place is the same. Once you have your home and once you figure out the best way to work and where the stores and shops are every place is the same. Houston, Panama City, Dalkeith, Atlanta, Laramie, Portland, Oakland, San Leandro, Irvine, Woodville theyre all the same once you get settled in. Dont let the crybabies get over on you
Its not the end of the world and you shouldnt get spooked by anonymous dopes on a message board. Similarly you shouldnt get sold a bill of goods by some dope on a message board either
bottom line is that Ive moved to 14 different states in the course of my life and have enjoyed each (to some extent) for different reasons. CA isnt my favorite, but isnt my worst experience either. Your mileage may vary.
RE: The area around the Carson/Bellflower intersection is one of the nicest family areas you'll find anywhere.
Spent lots, and lots of time living out of a suitcase at the Long Beach Mariott - early 90s. Was doing a product bring up at a vendor. My jogging route was right through that area. Indeed, very nice. Is there still that very down home, been there forever chicken place (name escapes me) in Bellflower, I seem to recall it being on Atlantic but I could be mistaken. It was near the 22.
RE: I'm in HB - that being said, anyone moving out for the first time should move to West LA. Zillions of apartments on the LA/Santa Monica border (Barrington), zillions of people of like mind/age, close to the beach and easy access to all the city action.
Good advice. When I still lived in the Southland, I spent lots of time around there. Nice quality of life in that neighborhood.
Im not falling for anymore of these tricks
Im so tired of everything here
This sum is calling me to the west
Everyones having fun out there
My bags are packed as Im looking out the window
Everything is so outdated here
I wanna move west to where the sun is shinning
I want my friends to all be there
Lets pack up and move to California
Shes got lots of friends out there
Well never get bored cause we can go boardin
Lets let the sunshine take us there
Im tired of taking it slow
So tired but Im not sleeping
Im wired about to pick up my board
Cause were all heading out for the weekend
Lets pack up and move to California
Hope on board before we get older
Raise your hands and shout for California
Come on, come on, come in, come on
Lets pack up and move to California
Shes got lots of friends out there
Well never get bored cause we can go boardin
Lets let the sunshine take us there
Come on, come on, come on, come on
Lets pack up and move to California
Shes got lots of friends out there
Well never get bored cause we can go boardin
Lets let the sunshine take us there
Lets pack up and move to California
Shes got lots of friends out there
Well never get bored cause we can go boardin
Lets let the sunshine take us there
Lets pack up and move to California
Hop on board before we get older
Raise your hands were heading for the border
Come on, come on, come on, come on

You know...I'd forgotten it was '89..I was thinking '87-'88....
LOL .. ok I have been to blacks in a very long time.. just remember the nudies were at the end of the looong trek down the hill. didn't know just where the sufers were. must be a nice walk down the beach tho ;)
My advice would be: don't.
I'm a lifelong Californian. If I could, I'd move to Idaho, from what I hear.

I was just trying to optimize things as far as where the work is. Ideally though I would move my LLC to someplace like Harper TX, and service the pipeline companies in central/west Texas.
Harper is a little town (don't know if it is incorporated) about 15 miles west of Fredericksburg. Where I saw my first real rodeo (not some mega-production).
Hahahaha, Man soooooo sad... But true it seems, I just never thought of it. Shhhhhhhh can't we just keep this to us? Lets get together and figure this stuff out! It is ok I fixed it so no one but us could see what you posted, or what I posted here.... Wheeeeew were in the clear... : ) <<< me
LOL
Woooooohooooo! : ) <<< me
Listen, two of the three conservatives who live in CA are moving to TN late this summer, having given up completely on the state.
You have my sympathy.
Do you work for Gensler?
If not, You may want to go to the Morristown office and Inquire about the prospect of working in the San Diego office.

that is a good idea as well. :)
There are less illegals in San Diego than anywhere else in the state...
