Dog Rips Child From Mother Arms
GLENDALE A Rottweiller ripped a toddler out of her mother's arms in Glendale, dragged the child up a driveway and mauled her to death, police said today.
The dog, which belongs to the victim's grandparents, pulled the child from her mother's arms about 7 last night in the 2300 block of Via Saldivar, said Sherri Servillo, a Glendale Police Department spokeswoman.
The infant was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Servillo said.
The woman was housesitting for the child's grandparents, Servillo said, adding authorities received a "hysterical 911 call" after the attack.
The dog is being held by Pasadena Animal Control, she said.
The woman holding the child was also holding a hose and watering a lawn when the 150-pound Rottweiler attacked, said Glendale police Sgt. Tom Lorenz, calling it a "horrific and tragic incident" that has shocked crime scene investigators.
He said the dog dragged the infant several feet down the driveway before mauling her. The mother suffered no major injuries.
After being notified of the attack, Glendale police officers went to the place where the victim's father works in Pasadena and drove him to the hospital where his child was pronounced dead, police said.
You owe me a new keyboard!
I have friends who raised Rotts. I used to visit. These people babied the Rotts and were the kindest people on earth. One of the Rotts cornerned me, growling very menacingly, until I was standing on a picnic table. The owner had to drag him away.
He was a mean tempered animal. Had NOTHING to do with being mistreated.
Your "straw man" needs a brain..
I'm not arguing. Folks can keep lions with the right permits, and that's fine with me. But if they get loose and kill someone, the lion keepers should go to jail.
Ditto any powerful 150# fanged beastie.
To me, the potential courtroom scene would not be worth having a 150# fanged beastie with a....reputation. Just coldly looking at it from the jury's POV.
Is that lady with the Pressa Canarius in San Francisco still in jail?
Speaking of Shiatsus, I've recently acquired a two month old Yorkie and she shiats everywhere. I'm new at this and would be eternally grateful for any "potty training your puppy in a New York minute" tips. Thank you.
A 150# rottie is a VERY big deal, due to its inherent potential to cause bloody fatal mayhem.
Folks can argue about their "loveable 150# galoots" all day, but I see the courtroom downside.
Even the dogs in California are liberal attack asrtists ...
So, let's just lop the entire breed into one "mean" category because of your experience. Let's not let your feeeeeelings get in the way.
Welcome to FR.
"I'll bet your naturally vicious toy poodle never ripped a baby from its mothers arms, dragged it up a driveway, and mauled it to death."

You explained what happened much better in terms of wolf/dog psychology.
Many people are blind to danger in humans and in domesticated animals.
Training helps, consistent and decent treatment helps, good breeding and culling helps most, but DNA is DNA.
Most people are woefully ignorant or blinded by love about what dog DNA is all about.
You're preaching to the choir, friend.
" I have friends who've owned four Rotts. One was a certified therapy dog who visited children's hospitals and nursing homes..."
A relative of our owns 2 Rotts...one is also a certified therapy dog who does the same.
There is a large difference between facial stitches, no matter how sad, and dead.
very good point!
Are rottweilers the ones that can swallow a man whole?
Or a dog driving an SUV.
