Royal Seal Unearthed in City of David
12:48 Aug 02, '05 / 26 Tammuz 5765
(IsraelNN.com) A royal seal dating to the period of the First Temple has been found in an archeological dig in the City of David, adjacent to the Old City of Jerusalem. The seals inscription has the name of Jehudi, son of Shelemiah, one of the top officials in the court of the last Judean king prior to the destruction of the First Temple, King Zedekiah. He is mentioned in the Book of Jeremiah. The seal dates from about 580 B.C.E.
The seal was found at the site which the is the site of the palace of the Judean kings, according to archaeologists under the supervision of Dr. Eilat Mazar of the Hebrew University. Several years ago, another circa-580 B.C.E. royal seal was found in the same site. It had the name of Gemaryahu, son of Shafan, who is also mentioned in the Book of Jeremiah, and was a top official in the court of King Zedekiah's predecessor, King Yehoyachim.
These findings support the description in the Bible of the importance of Jerusalem in Jewish history. The First Temple was the center of Judean political and religious life and is at the center of Jewish claims to historical links to Jerusalem, as repeated by Jews throughout the generations who pray for "Next year in Jerusalem."
GGG Ping.
Pings to you!

I love hearing about things like this. In my next life, I'm going to be an archaeologist! Thanks for posting it.
So, the Crusaders didn't get everything.
Great! I'm gonna be an anthropologist.
It fell out of the Templars stash.
So...let's see...wouldn't this kind of support the idea that jews had a presence in Jerusalem - and that their history dates back much farther than the "Palestinians"?
Doesn't this support the idea that the Mosque on the site of the temple was a piss poor idea?

I thought the Jews and Arabs agreed on their ancestry back to two brothers. But maybe I'm wrong. Or maybe the Palestinias aren't Arabs.
How fascinating! What was the seal made out of, some kind of metal?
They don't agree on anything.
The Palestinians claim they are the rightful heirs to the city of Jerusalem.
They claim the jews are not - and do not have a historical claim to the city. They claim this is why the jewish "occupation" is unjust.
But when you look at history - such as has been posted here - the jewish presence in Jerusalem predates the muslims (whose presence dates back to the Crusades)
The site of the Temple is ancient - and of utmost importance to the jews.
The muslims built a mosque right on the site of this ancient temple.
Talk about injustice!
Does anyone know if that Dr. Vendyl Jones has found the Ark yet?LOL, guess we would have heard if he had. This stuff is cool though.
muslims and jews, from what i understand, split at abraham. muslims being the sons of ishmael, jews/ christians the sons of isaac.
and its my opinion that this is a major contributing factor to the problems between jews and muslims.
I agree!!! I have had a disability that has confined me to a wheelchair for most of my life. Nothing about having a disability has ever bothered except when I see those people able to climb around and dig at archaeological sites.

There was a church there for a while. Constantine built it, IIRC. Before that a temple of Jupiter which was deliberately put there to defile the site after 70AD.
Half brothers, actually! Abraham was the father of both Ishmael and Isaac. Ishmael's claim is that he was the first born. Isaac's claim is that he was born of Sarah or Sarai, Abraham's wife, while Ishmael was born of Hagar, Sarah's hand maid or bond servant. According to the laws of primogeniture, Issac was the legal and lawful heir, both to Abraham's worldly wealth and more importantly to the birthright and the Abrahamic Covenant.
Sarah had wisdom enough to see that Ishmael and Hagar would always be trouble makers and urged Abraham to be rid of them. Reluctantly, Abraham sent Ishmael and Hagar into the desert. Unfortunately, they survived.
There is more to archaeology then climbing around and digging. You could use a metal detector from your chair... metal detectors can be bought in all sizes and metal detecting is extremely neccessary at many sites. You could also help screen the dirt that diggers take out of the ground. They are big screens hanging from a tripod and they can be lowered to your height or you could have someone make your own screen and you could screen the loose dirt. You would be surprised at how much is recovered in the screens. Most archaeologists are poor and they use alot of volunteers. Why wait until your next life? ;o)
