Iraq war 'unjust,' says Carter abroad
worldnetdaily ^ | 7/30/05

Former President Jimmy Carter said today, while in Birmingham, England, the detention of terror suspects at the Guantanamo Bay Naval base was an embarrassment and had given extremists an excuse to attack the U.S.

Carter also criticized the U.S.-led war in Iraq as "unnecessary and unjust."

"I think what's going on in Guantanamo Bay and other places is a disgrace to the U.S.A.," he told a news conference at the Baptist World Alliance's centenary conference. "I wouldn't say it's the cause of terrorism, but it has given impetus and excuses to potential terrorists to lash out at our country and justify their despicable acts."

Carter added that terrorist acts could not be justified, and that while Guantanamo "may be an aggravating factor ... it's not the basis of terrorism."

"What has happened at Guantanamo Bay ... does not represent the will of the American people," Carter said. "I'm embarrassed about it, I think it's wrong. I think it does give terrorists an unwarranted excuse to use the despicable means to hurt innocent people."

Carter, who won the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize, has been an outspoken critic of the Iraq war from the beginning. But it is highly unusual for former presidents to criticize war policies of their successors while abroad.

"I thought then, and I think now, that the invasion of Iraq was unnecessary and unjust. And I think the premises on which it was launched were false," he said.

Between ex-President Jimmy Carter's public statements. "...and the disclosure of just who drew up the plan for Democrats to abuse the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI) as a stealth weapon to undermine and discredit President George W. Bush and the U.S. war effort in Iraq...", HOUSTON...WE HAVE A PROBLEM!

They should all be arrested and martial law declared.

The Democratic Party's crimes dwarf ENRON/WORLDCOM combined.

They tried with the mainstream media as co-conspirators, to overthrow the United States Government.

According to Christopher Hitchens, Mr. Peanut via Zbignew Brzezinski is the one who first encouraged Saddam Insane to launch a war against Iran. He encouraged a dictator to use his people as cannon fodder to start a fight that was really our (American) fight. He didn't have the guts to take on Khomeini himself, and his hands are just as dirty and bloody as any other president's.

Self-righteous, loathesome incompetent (and traitor). Boot-licker of dictators. He is one of the main reasons I became a conservative and an admirer of Ronald Reagan as I became a young adult in 1979/1980. I could not stand Mr. Peanut.

We're giving terrorists an "unwarranted excuse"??

More hand-wringing from Jimmy "The Weenie" Carter.

Carter gave Korea it's nuclear technology. He also gave away the Panama Canal, allowing China a chance to get closer access to the U.S.

We didn't even have fuel for our cars or heat for our homes when he was president, either.

Carter is and always has been a total loser. Everything he's ever done has hurt the U.S, and now he's even siding with the nations enemies. The man is a national traitor. He should be treated like one.

Jesus, that dumb bastard can't keep his freaking mouth shut. First he gives the store away to Kim Il Sung, and now this.

Jimmy Carter is a true Ass Clown. He is a sanctimonious, self-righteous git who is, as we speak, undermining his country's cause in time of war while his nation's troops are in the field.

What a putz.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

The Only Reason Carter finds this war unjust is that he could or would not do anything during his term to defend the U.S. during his term and every day he is reminded of his cowardice, so he has to attack the present President who at least tried to do something to protect the American people from a group of savages who have only one thing on their mind and that is to kill American citizens.

Carter is an embarrassment and he should be banished to the most remote place on earth instead of being treated like a hero.

Herbert Hoover was dealt a raw deal IMO, blamed for the depression, see Calvin Coolidge. Carter was much worse.

"... the detention of terror suspects at the Guantanamo Bay Naval base was an embarrassment"

Hell yes it's an embarrassment.  They are still awaiting trial, and therefore still alive.  How much more embarrassing can it be?

"And I think the premises on which it was launched were false," he said."

There's been an awful heap of sewage dumped on the USA and President Bush for the war in Iraq.  Where should the blame be placed?  Here's a thought. If Saddam Hussein had opened his nation to full inspection in accordance with UN demands, none of this would have happened.  Neither President Bush, nor our country as a whole, kept Saddam from allowing the inspections to go forward.
