Over There Movie Making Me Furious
FX channel | ME girlangler@bellsouth.net

Posted on 07/27/2005 7:27:38 PM PDT by girlangler

I am so MAD, watching this piece of garbage on TV. Where can I write to the executives of this channel?

They are trying to make another Viet Nam out of this, and make our troops look like idiots.

God, I'm angry!!!!

The candy bar and the town were named for the guy, Milton Hershey.

She sounds like a great daughter and lives the 'creed'.

I saw every lame hollyweird angle in the the first few minutes and knew it was going to be garbage. Sad, because we need a positive portrayal of our service members overseas. I'm disgusted.

I was very upset by this show too. Thanks for the addresses. I'm going to mail them and the sponsors tomorrow. I can't believe Fox/Rupert would air this garbage.

I probably wouldn't be able to sit through it without having to haul out my blood pressure monitor.

I don't know where you can write...FX is owned by Fox.

Perhaps it's part of the Rupert Murdoch effort to elect Hillary. O'Reilly had the producer on.

I was looking forward to this show. I made it through ten minutes before I had to shut it off. First, two females on an infantry patrol. I thought okay, maybe they were MP's or something. Then the jihadis open up and the guys can't fire back because they don't have approval. Whatever happened to ROE?

I watched about 10 minutes of it and couldn't take no more of the BS!

MASH (2005)

I particularly liked the part where she starts screaming that she can dig her own foxhole, very professional. They do not have any Hueys over there with big red crosses on them. There is no dirt, only sand. You don't pull off the road when you suspect there are IEDs. IEDs don't have little wires sticking up with white flags on them. That chopper got there pretty quick, didn't it? I seriously doubt that the motorpool guy would be standing in front of the shop and be smoking weed. What a total waste of time and hamhanded attempt to push a liberal agenda.

What was really funny about that was afterwards when the CO and the PL are talking to the squad leader, he tells the CO that he fired back "in accordance with the ROE" even though he didn't have authorization to fire. WTF, over?

Then there's the football guy calling the squad leader "sir" (didn't he go to basic training?), calling the black female "ma'am" even though he outranks her, the PL all bent out of shape because the squad had to move up 50 meters even though 25 meters up was the last cover (I know what my squad leaders would've said to me had I told 'em to do that!), and the idiot homeboy rapper cast as a "cool guy" pot smoking joe.

And another thing, was this supposed to be an infantry squad? The show gave me the impression that they were all different MOS's.

Anyway, yeah, the hype was just that--this show was terrible, leftist, and completely inaccurate.

I watched just enough of it to see someone dressed as a soldier describing himself as a monster.

Even Hanoi Jane is back on the road (for now).

Hey, Ace, you're the doofus who dismisses the initial post with "if you don't like it, don't watch." I guess that rules out all negative cultural criticism, doesn't it?

Now, recess is over, I think your teacher wants you.

My thanks for the service of you and your daughter. I do have a question a guy with your experience can answer. When I watched the show I was surprised about the lack of clarity in the orders the squad leader gave to his troops and in his radio procedure with his platoon leader. The sqaud leader seemed to exert no real control over the squad beyond telling them they'd screw up and get killed. The scene did not compare with the depiction of the Rangers in Blackhawk Down, who while excited and under fire never lost control and kept their commands and directions on point. Are my observations accurate. Also in the scene where the squad advances to fifty meters it seemed to me that the interval was much too small. It looked like a one meter interval when I would have thought, from my ROTC days that a five meter interval would be more appropriate>

I may be picky but if these are inaccurate depictions then it's easier to criticize the motives of Bocho and the writers.

It makes perfect sense. Your husband doesn't need to see the movies- he's lived them. Nothing portrayed on the screen will ever be as "real" as his first-hand experience.
I think that's how most of us vets feel, whether we've ever heard a shot fired in anger or not. We know from experience what's "real" and Hollywierd usually gets it wrong.
Given the current crop of idiots running Hollywierd now, I too am highly suspicious of any war-related productions. I had intended to watch "Over There" last night, but didn't.
My oldest son is currently living his own, very real "Over There" in Iraq right now. I don't need Bochco's version.
I had the same reaction about the whole idea. You're not alone.

Thank you and tell your son that we truly appreciate his service now...

I couldn't watch it because of my husband's service over 30 years ago...I KNOW I wouldn't be able to watch if my son was over there...

Thanks for the post!!

Well I watched it last night and thought it was a pretty good show. I'm surprised so many of you think it was political. I mean about 80% of the episode was them fighting and surrounding the mosque. I thought it was a good show, I'm going to keep watching.
