Being a threat, he paid the ultimate sacrifice that saved hundreds of lives by losing his. The assessment had to be that he posed a deadly threat. In hindsight it turns out that he wasn't.
He's dead now, and behavior will change on many fronts as a result. But there is no way the system will ever be perfect. There will always be killings that while well justified in the minds of all the actors at the moment, in hindsight are seen as unfortunate incidents.

The British army is running out of bullets, I read recently. I wonder if they will make his family pay for the five they put in the back of his head?

I posted the Diallo story as I know it. If I am wrong, I am wrong. But I never heard any other version besides the "fled, reached into pocket" storyline.
And the 41 shots from several officers who feared for their own lives (remember they were looking for an armed rapist) is not in the least bit surprising.

Yeah, we know. Thanks. That is the crux of the argument. People keep faulting the cops. He ran...they shot. For many, it has to be repeated at timed intervals for it to sink in.

No uniforms.. my guess is no badges shown.. things happened too quickly. Are undercover guns visible? I doubt it.
But hey.. you are happy with the shooting -- so be it.

ROFL!! Can't say as I blame him.

No, he sure won't. He won't be much of anything except a corpse. If he's innocent after a thorough investigation he'll go to heaven, his troubles will be over. If on the other hand he was more than an innocent...alot of innocent people were saved and he won't be getting his 72 virgins.

Obviously he never heard of "mind the gap."

No kidding. Let this be a lesson to everyone given commands by someone acting like a cop in plainclothes. Do whatever they say. Submit or be shot. Pulled over by a weird guy? Too bad, could be a cop. You are at his mercy.

You're right, he ran into his building after the cops yelled. They had him cornered with guns drawn and
he was not threatening. There was no reason to shoot the guy, reports of an armed rapist notwithstanding.

I'm not one to nitpick, unlike you, but I really don't think that is the most important issue you, me, or anyone else here needs to be tackling.

Oh, so God is waiting for an investigation to be concluded? Good for him, at least he's thorough.
Tell all that to his family, I'm sure they will find solace in your kind words.

Wow, this sucks. Maybe in Brazil is makes sense to take your chances and run from the cops. Maybe that's all he knew. This is a shame for all concerned. Dead innocent, his family and the cops who face administrative or even criminal charges. This is not a good thing at a time when the Brits need to have steely resolve.
