A man shot dead by police in London was not connected to Thursday's attacks and may have been Brazilian. More Soon...
Always submit to authorities.
Don't be brown. Don't wear a coat. Don't be an electrician. What else have we learned?
I just was reading where Condi and crew were upset at being jostled by some thug leader's security guards. Andrea Mitchel is livid.
These women obviously don't have to contend with the TSA. If they did, the attitude of the TSA would change or they would be outtahere.
I'm not sure what the COBRA committee is, but I was assuming that since Mayor Bloomberg of New York City is in charge of the NYPD, I figured that Mayor Ken would have been involved in putting the shoot-to-kill policy in place.
well, at least we know why the british cops don't normally carry guns.
So we agree then and hopefully you have resigned from DU and are giving up being a muslim ;)
It's one thing to profile people in the airport security line. It's another thing to kill them.
I agree, but if that person is threatening your life and the lives of hundreds or thousands of others, the first thing you want to do is take out the threat and at the same time save your life and the lives of hundreds or thousands of others. Anyone complying with the stripsearch at an airport security post is hardly a threat. In that regard, you're equating apples to oranges.
Yeah, well it can't "spin" the guy back to life.
He's lucky all he ended up with was a a$$ full of the heel of a spit shined shoe.
COBRA stands for Cabinet Office Briefing Room or something.
Basically it's the mechanism by which the Prime Minister interfaces with the security people during a major crisis.
It would normally decide to e.g. make the SAS available to the police, but the police would decide whether to hand control to the SAS. This incident sounds more like anti-terrorist cops though, and I'm not sure what the process is.
One thing I do know though, Tony Blair would rather perform dentistry on himself with a masonry bit than invite Ken Livingstone to a meeting, even one he theoretically has to be at.
What might happen is I could win the Mega lottery tonight and be set up for life.
What Did happen was he continued to run when ordered to stop. What Did happen is they thought he was a suicide bomber. What Did happen was England suffered a terrorist bombing twice in as two weeks.
Diallo did not run from the cops, nor did he refused to ID himself. He simply walked into the foyer of his own building. When the cops showed up, he was opening his mailbox. He was reaching for a wallet when the cops shot him. One of the cops yelled, "gun", which was not true. At the sound of the word gun, the cops fired 44, or so shots. There was no reason whatsoever for them to have shot Diallo. None.
There's a difference in this case, because the Brazillian acted like a bomber during a period of real bombings.
Being a threat, he paid the ultimate sacrifice that saved hundreds of lives by losing his.
He'll never be a terrorist either will he?
Yup I've quit them all. I'm back to my good old Italian American/Roman Catholic forgetaboudit world! ;-)
I believe witnesses said his foot slipped on the step and he grabbed the pole and another passenger by the arm trying to get into the car. I know that earlier reports said that he tripped but this slipping on the step is what witnesses are saying.
We have also learned not to exactly fit the profile of a suicide bomber while staying at a house under surveillance for suicide bombers. Not to flee from the police after you leave said premises when they try to arrest you. Not to ignore warnings to stop from armed police. Not to flee towards the suicide bombers primary target in eight previous bombings and attempted bombings.
"Do British police speak Portuguese?"
No, and perhaps it's a lesson to travelers & immigrants of how critical it could be to learn some of the language before going to another country....I wonder how a man could work as an electrician(how long had he been there?) in London and not understand "Stop, POLICE)
Not related to this, but years ago here in the USA a woman didn't understand a firemans pleas to her to jump from her burning window and she died....all the firemen & policemen were required to learn Spanish. I can't imagine how many languages theyd have to learn now.
No, he sure won't. He won't be much of anything except a corpse.
That would be news to me.
The "sudden gesture" was simply that he reached into his front pocket for his wallet
Yes, as I said. Pity he didn't stop and drop, as ordered, or raise his hands instead.
