WASHINGTON While Supreme Court nominee John G. Roberts Jr.'s views on abortion triggered intense debate on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, there is no mistaking where his wife stands: Jane Sullivan Roberts, a lawyer, is ardently against abortion.
A Roman Catholic like her husband, Jane Roberts has been deeply involved in the antiabortion movement. She provides her name, money and professional advice to a small Washington organization Feminists for Life of America that offers counseling and educational programs. The group has filed legal briefs before the high court challenging the constitutionality of abortion.
A spouse's views normally are not considered relevant in weighing someone's job suitability. But abortion is likely to figure prominently in the Senate debate over John Roberts' nomination. And with his position on the issue unclear, abortion rights supporters expressed concern Wednesday that his wife's views might suggest he also embraced efforts to overturn Roe vs. Wade.
"It's unclear how all this will affect her husband," said Jennifer Palmieri, a spokeswoman with the Center for American Progress, a liberal public policy group. "It's possible that he would have a different view than her. It's just that in the absence of information about this guy, people are looking at her and trying to read the tea leaves."

Here's your liberal media of today.
Criticizing the wife of Joe Wilson = Bad
Criticizing the wife of John Roberts = Good
The Roberts' children are adopted. You have a problem with that?
LOL
Thats funny....(stated alternatively) Leftism is about sexual gratification-on-demand.
Maybe thats all Ho Chi wanted, too, yes?
Perfectly ok, proper, and correct (from the left's point of view) for Barbara and Laura Bush to be pro-choice but it's incomprehensible for a wife to be pro-life.
Well, anti-Catholic/anti-Christian bigotry is the last safe bastion in America.LOL
Boy, I keep liking this guy more and more with every new bit I hear about him. I think he may be the anti-Souter. A stealth candidate who is much more conservative than anyone thinks. Hopefully, when added to Scalia and Thomas, Roberts will complete the trinity which brings honesty and coherance back to US constitutional jurisprudence.
I think that's a lot of what the New Left is about...not to say that every leftist politician is a closet pervert. But that ideology is very focused on sex.
Regarding Ho Chi Minh, I think the old-time Communists just wanted raw power. They truly believed that a utopia was around the corner if the government could control all means of production and distribution.
well, that's what we are all hoping and praying for...
no more "Souter" surprises...
it's waaaaay past time for some common sense to arrive at the Supremes.
"...brings honesty and coherance back to US constitutional jurisprudence."
Nothing else matters.....all the surrogate issues will fall into place when the above is attained....and sadly, not until it is attained.
Highly doubtful. They perhaps contested the constitutionality of the present interpretation that women have an absolute right to abortion at any stage of pregnancy.
When ethnicity is factored out, there is no difference between the fertility rate of Catholics and other Americans. There is also no statistical difference in their use of birth control.
FWIW
From what I've read, they have only been married for nine years, when they were in their early forties. When they could not get pregnant, they resorted to adoption and after several years of trying, were able to adopt two children.
Criticizing the wife of Joe Wilson = Bad
Criticizing the wife of John Roberts = Good
Co-Presidents Bill n' Hill = Good
Co-Justices Mr. & Mrs. Roberts = Bad
One case where I hope the man is henpecked.
I think Bush 04 was the first time Catholics went (R) since Reagan 84.
I'd prefer if he was Evangelical.....Charasmatic preferably...lol
