What's the big idea? (Bernie Goldberg of Bias fame attacked on air on CNBC by Donny Deutsch)
Wash Times Inside Beltway ^ | 7/20/05 | John McCaslin

Posted on 07/20/2005 11:10:29 AM PDT by Cableguy

Talk about appearing blindfolded before a kangaroo court. Then again, CBS newsman-turned-author Bernard Goldberg might not have recalled before appearing last night on CNBC's "The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch" that the host was a lead member of the Clinton/Gore communications team in 1992. "I've been doing this a long, long time, and I have never, ever, ever, never -- I could say never and ever 10 more times -- experienced what I just went through," Mr. Goldberg told Inside the Beltway late yesterday after he taped the show, which is to air tonight, from Miami. "Deutsch disagreed with everything, and that is just fine," said Mr. Goldberg, the best-selling author of "Bias" who has written the new book "100 People Who Are Screwing Up America (And Al Franken is No. 37)." "But then, unbeknownst to me, they brought on a panel of five, plus Donny, all of whom took the other side. And it's not like they just respectfully disagreed; there was name-calling, ganging up; it was unbelievable. And not one of them even read the book. They admitted it. "It was more than an ambush," he said. "It was the most cynical, dishonest thing I have ever been lassoed into. They misled me." Immediately after the taping, Mr. Goldberg said, he told the show's producer, Marilyn Cutler, that Mr. Deutsch had been "dishonest." "I told her that she should be ashamed," he said. "A short time later, she called back, crying like a baby. She said, 'I am resigning.' And I told her, 'You should resign.' It was one big setup. And they used her to get me into it. They wanted to kick my [expletive] on national television -- six people, all basically calling me an idiot."

If he was on a Michael Moore show OK
But does Donny sell itself as a lib show?
Not at all.
It is the Big Idea.
And Donny is still a Deutschb#g.

Never having seen the Deutsch show I wouldn't know what it sells itself as. But come on, MSNBC? If Bernie wants to guarantee himself no-hassle interviews then he should stick to Fox.

I read where Franken blasted Goldberg pretty hard several times about Bias and basically calling Bernie out several times for being a liar. Hence the Frankenstein in the title.

Goldberg admitted that this was not as serious of a book as his others. In fact, he called it "light, summer reading".

I don't think he is just pandering... at least I hope not because I like him too.

Ya, I bet you hate to say it. The problem for you is it is Hannity's show, he goes one on one with them, and when he sees the guest rambling or spinning; its his job to cut them off.

If you don't like it don't watch; but to compare this to what the clowns at this DOMMY DEUTCH show did is rediculous.

How are things at DU?

Donny Deutsch is a pretty boy. That's why he has a show.

It's mostly superficial pap masquerading as "serious" stuff with a "respectful" tone toward it's celebrity nit wit guests.

I like Goldberg, but this book really seems to be nothing more than a big giant pander to sell books to conservatives. If not, why put Franken in the title?

I agree completely. I have my own biases, and I love the concept of Goldberg's new book; but it looks like he quickly compiled a name of people that conservatives are known to dislike then put it into list form to make an easy buck. It looks cheesy.

I guess it takes six moronic liberals to gang up on someone. Let to their own devices, they're unable to debate anyone.

I am just saying he was tricked.

And I'm just saying that if Bernie wants to set out to piss off the liberals then he shouldn't be surprised if they set out to do the same to him.

Donny Deutsch Bag had the other 5 liberals on with him because he is not intelligent enough to carry on a conversation with Goldberg. Deutsch Bag is a phony. His rating numbers prove it.

My take is that there is a big difference between a contentious debate on even a liberal show and a Jerry Springer type of shout-down.

IMHO, Jack Welch needs to come back to kick this guys ass off the air.  The executive producer also: (Cutler told Goldberg that the executive producers had forced her to set Goldberg up for the attack... http://www.captainsquartersblog.com/mt/archives/004998.php )

I wish I'd read your post before I wrote my last one. Sounds like Bernie's book might be better than it sounds.

Regarding John Stossel's book, it's a shame that the very stupid-sounding subtitle was tacked on by the editors.
